The pads on her front paws are red and look irritated or inflammed. It really seems to get worse when she walks for a long time outside or is outside in the grass, mulch, sand, etc. She preffers to walk on concrete. Is there anything I can do to help this or take care of the chewing and licking?

i love these breeds. i have had experince with a rottie and loved him. i also love the dobie. wich breed tends to be more loving. i want a dog who will lay on the couch with me. i am a active person and the dog will get at least an hour of running a day.i feel that i can control a more dominate breed, but i will look for a more submisive and laid back puppy. thanks

My 5yr old teacup chihuahua collapsed about a week ago and was lethargic for 2-3 days. She refused to eat or drink or even get up to go to the bathroom. I took her to our vet and he gave her a physical, drew blood, gave her a fluid treatment because of dehydration, and a steroid and antibiotic shot. He said he wasn't sure what could be her problem and to wait on the blood tests. The blood tests came back normal. She showed improvement over the next 2 days (walking, eating, drinking) but then on wed. I came home to find her walking in circles with her head twisted to the right and down. She wouldnt turn it the other way and kept screaming every few minutes. Again she had difficulty eating and drinking. I took her to the vet again and demanded some kind of diagnosis since my baby was hurting so much. All three of the vets at our animal clinic conferred on her case and still can't determine exactly what might be wrong. Either meningitis, ruptured disc, or Dens are their guesses right now.

This is a repeat question of something I saw here yesterday. What kind of dog is this?

I'm curious now also. I think it's adorable and would love a small dog like that.

my next door neighbour and i were talking this morning about dog food and i said that i find canned dog food makes my doggys poo runny compared to dried food. She told me that she read somewhere that you should not feed your dog for 1 day a week. I have no idea why or if it is true...has anyone else heard of this?
I have no intentions of not giving her her food, but just curious as to why some people do?

If so, why? Do you think, looking back, that it was the best choice?

What do you think are legitimate reasons for giving up an animal to a shelter?

Hey all!
Yesterday, I got a phonecall from my sister telling me my yorkie puppy of 4 months old was limping. Shocked as I was, I asked her how she started limping and my sister told me she was grooming her until my dog decided to get hyper which resulted her from falling from the table to the chair to the ground. Her left hind leg seems to be very weak thus making her limp. My friends at work tell me I shouldn't worry too much and that it is probably just sprained. If it was really broken, she wouldn't be walking at all. What should I do?

I have recently acquired a toy Yorkshire Terrier. She is absolutely adorable but I never imagined that anything so small could stink so much! Even after I give her a bath she begins to smell like doggie very quickly. I'd like to keep her but I can't deal with the dog smell. Suggestions? Any dog groomers out there with some helpful hints?

We have a male dog that like to 'ride' or 'hump' blankets, and pillows. Do female dogs exhibit this behaviour?

Meaning he likes to bite(play bite) you and if you walk on your knees to get something, he'll bite you but he doesn't bite anyone else. You've tried saying OW! NO! and ignoring him and showing him where it hurts, that makes it worse. You tried firmly patting him on the nose and say no but that makes it worse.

Suggestions? I never let him get away with it.

My dog Little B is 16 today. Hooray! She can't hear everyone cheering because she went deaf 4 or 5 years ago. She has a gray muzzle and four gray paws. Does she get a star?
I'm taking her to the dog beach where she sits under the umbrella and watches all the action!!!!

Wanted to thank everyone who responded to the previous email three weeks ago - in regards to our 11 year old terrier, who had suddenly developed leg and tail lameness (I don't know how to append these comments to the original question.) Unfortunately, the situation got worse - much worse. He ceased being able to stand, could hardly urinate, was crying in pain, and screaming when touched. A sonogram found nothing. Neither did an x-ray of his lower back. The vet suspected a slipped disk or tumor...and we chose to put him down Tuesday, to take away the pain. Thanks to everyone who responded and tried to help. It was appreciated. We're going to miss him terribly. To make this an official question, I guess I could add...did we do the right thing? I hope we did.

Many first time dog owners prior to buying come on here and ask what kind of dog they should get. I've seen where they even list the two or three types of dogs that interest them. I understand everyone thinks their breed is BEST but, cant you set aside your preference long enough to answer the question objectively? I own Saints and to tell you the truth I rarely recommend them to most people. I surely wouldnt tell an apartment dweller in the city to get one. Just because they are my favorite breed doesnt mean EVERYONE should own one. Lets try to help these people and read their questions and concerns. Why not recommend a dog that will best suit their situation? Not everyone should have a bully breed, toy or giant breed. Some should go to the shelter while others should not.
Do you agree?

Hello just wante some advice. I just adopted a pup and she is female. I have had nothing but male dogs in the past and neutered them, however, I am wondering if it is different for a female. I was curious when you can get them spayed or if you have to wait longer? I know it is a tad more invasive than a male dog. My pup is about 2 1/2 months old.

I am gonna talk to a vet but just wanted to get others opinions as well. So thankyou in advance for reading this.
