My 5yr old teacup chihuahua collapsed about a week ago and was lethargic for 2-3 days. She refused to eat or drink or even get up to go to the bathroom. I took her to our vet and he gave her a physical, drew blood, gave her a fluid treatment because of dehydration, and a steroid and antibiotic shot. He said he wasn't sure what could be her problem and to wait on the blood tests. The blood tests came back normal. She showed improvement over the next 2 days (walking, eating, drinking) but then on wed. I came home to find her walking in circles with her head twisted to the right and down. She wouldnt turn it the other way and kept screaming every few minutes. Again she had difficulty eating and drinking. I took her to the vet again and demanded some kind of diagnosis since my baby was hurting so much. All three of the vets at our animal clinic conferred on her case and still can't determine exactly what might be wrong. Either meningitis, ruptured disc, or Dens are their guesses right now.

I'm sorry for your dog, but if the vets, the professionals cannot help, there's not much we can do, other than to console you.

I'm truly sorry for you and you Chi.

Have you tried having an MRI done on her head? Expensive yes, but it sounds very much like a brain tumor to me. I have seen cats and dogs with the same problem show the same symptoms. Medication can help, but normally there is not a cure. Surgery can be done sometimes, but I have not seen it done and be successful too often.

If this is the case the sooner she is diagnosed the better. Medication may help and give her a decent quality of life for a couple more years or so.

Are you sure it's the vet you should be going to and demanding help from??

This is one of those things that come up because of those people who breed ' Teacup ' dogs.. Taking nothing into consideration at all but the size of the two dogs being bred.. Doesn't matter if they have any problems, if they are small they are bred.. You my friend bought one of those genetic defects that people warn about when they tell everyone to avoid the Teacup scammers...

Take her to the vet and get her help. But the person you should be making demands to is the horrible rotten, disgusting, unethical, lying, scamming so called ' Breeder ' you bought your poor sick dog from.. Sorry...

To me it sounds like your chi may be suffering from mini strokes (blood clots in the brain which cause the erratic behavior.) I would suggest getting her on a blood thinner ASAP and going to a different veterinary clinic if at all possible.

I have no idea what could be wrong, but this is why we all preach against breeders of teacups. Dogs that small are not healthy and now you are paying the price of irresponsibility from the breeder.
I am so sorry, my friend.

since she is hanging her head, it is very possible that she has ear mites...cleaning her ears out with baby oil or getting drops for that purpose will help with the head hanging down...since it's she is hanging her head to the right, it's probably her right ear that is hurting her...as for her not eating and drinking, it could be a kidney problem or diabetes...but since the blood tests were normal, it's possible it's still related to her ears...the ear canal is very delicate as you know, so use a q-tip but don't go deep...just clean the swirls and partially past the hair...if you get ear drops, she will shake her head and whatever is in there (if anything) will fly out...hope she gets well soon...
