Looks like a Golden puppy to me! All Golden's are cute!
What you think it's a cocker Spaniel? I dont I could be wrong but the pup doesnt have the cocker eyes. Some Golden's do have very curly fur on their ears too.

He is very cute. I looked at the pic before I saw your additional details and guessed he was a spaniel mix. He will not only retain his cuteness but is very smart and you should train him properly. Research both breeds to find out what his inbred instints are and train from there.
He has the eyes of a Retreiver, very intense and itelligent looking. Good job on finding him.

Your puppy is adorable. I have 4 dogs and 3 of them are daschunds and the youngest is only 6 months.
