Wow! This is very unusual to say the least. Mom and all the pups should be vet checked soon after she has given birth. If you have not taken them in yet than call your vet and get the group into the vets for a checkup for mom and and take the pups too. Have the vet check this pup out really well to make sure it has no other deformities internally. Your vet can then best advise you as to what can be done when the pup gets older. He may advise to put the pup down, and it may be the best thing to do.
This pup may be very hard to place so I would start to look for just the right family now if your vet finds nothing else wrong with it.
Also I would get your dam spayed after she weans this litter. Deformities like this are genetic and should not be passed to any more pups.
Call your vet today and have them all seen!

my sister has an 8 year old golden retriever with 3 1/2 legs. it didn't happen when the pup was born though. when she was a puppy her leg got stuck in a fence. the mom chewed half of it off to free the pup. anyway, kimmy is 8 years old now and doing fine. she only has a front left leg down to the elbow. she gets along a little slower than other dogs, but does good otherwise. my 8 year old nephew takes her for walks in a wagon because she can't walk for long periods of time and she loves it. the vet will probably decide to amputate the rest of the leg to make it easier for the dog, but i don't think he will want to put him to sleep. good luck and remember, dogs can live a relatively good life with only three legs.

No it will not die. The puppy just has an abnormality. You don't need to worry. Puppies are sometimes born without 2 legs but they survive. But just to be on the safe side, contact your local vet.

If that is all that is wrong with the puppy it will live. Contact your vet & tell them the situation & take the puppy in to see the vet. They may want to amputate the half leg when it gets a little older!!!

take all the pups and mother to vet so the vet can look them all over.....the vet will be able to give u a answer to this if he can look it over first hand. But just to let u know there are dogs out there that live with out problem that have only 3 legs.

The mother may reject it, so you might have to take over the "mom" role and feed it, but if that's the only thing wrong with the puppy, it should live. Have the vet check the pup over for any other possible defects.

The puppy will probably live. You need to take Mom to the vet. Golden's don't have just one puppy. If this puppy is deformed, then she probably has some "plugs" inside that need to come out before they become septic. Some viruses cause fetuses to die or be deformed.

I agree there are too many unwanted well developed dogs available. I personally would put a deformed dog down. You dont know if that is the only deformity either. There could be brain or internal malformations too.
