Wanted to thank everyone who responded to the previous email three weeks ago - in regards to our 11 year old terrier, who had suddenly developed leg and tail lameness (I don't know how to append these comments to the original question.) Unfortunately, the situation got worse - much worse. He ceased being able to stand, could hardly urinate, was crying in pain, and screaming when touched. A sonogram found nothing. Neither did an x-ray of his lower back. The vet suspected a slipped disk or tumor...and we chose to put him down Tuesday, to take away the pain. Thanks to everyone who responded and tried to help. It was appreciated. We're going to miss him terribly. To make this an official question, I guess I could add...did we do the right thing? I hope we did.

Thanks to everyone for their responses - time and support really is helping me heal.
I've put up a small page in memory for the Goober, (including a pic.) Thanks again to all:

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It's never an easy decision.
My heart goes out to you and your family.
11 yrs of devotion, yes, I think you did the right thing. Not being able to diagnose the problem and he was obviously in pain, you gave him his dignity.

yes you did the right thing and I'm sorry for the pain you must be in this poem may help:::
PUT ME TO REST
Time to let me go my friend,
Because my life no-one can mend,
Its better to let me go this way,
Than watch me suffer night and day.
I'm happy to go, my time has come,
My quality of life is no longer fun,
Ive been so ill, so its not a bad thing,
To let me go forever resting.
Stay with me till I drift away,
Fast asleep forever I pray,
To relieve me from suffering and pain,
What more can I ask from my best friend.
Don't be sad, I'll be free from pain,
Never to be ill ever again,
I know you'll miss me being there,
But all the memories you have to share.
Thankyou for being my best friend,
And all my needs that you did tend,
Try not to be sad, try not to cry,
Now's the time to say GOODBYE

Yes you did. You cared enough about this dog to end his suffering. You were a wonderful master to him. Don't be haunted by guilt. You were right. I am so sorry you lost your dog.

There are never any words to console one, when they have to put their dog down. Many of us have been there. Just know that you are doing what is in the best interest of your dog.

i might suspect the two stroke or a back difficulty. each each now and then back issues ought to reason indications that seem neurological and a few vets have the skill to grant chiropractic cures to animals. terrific of luck to you and your dogs.
