The pads on her front paws are red and look irritated or inflammed. It really seems to get worse when she walks for a long time outside or is outside in the grass, mulch, sand, etc. She preffers to walk on concrete. Is there anything I can do to help this or take care of the chewing and licking?

You should take her to the vet, and they may give you some medication. It is probably just allergies, but it could be a combination of allergies and OCD. Good luck!

Chewing feet is usually an indication of allergies. Chewing the pads is probably an environmental allergy - grass, sand. Wash feet after each trip outside on grass. You can apply an anti-itch (hydrocortison) spray to the feet. Limit your walks to concrete areas.

Whomever answered about cleaning and wrapping the feet was correct.

Benadryl (check with your vet for dosage) often helps the symptoms. Remember that First Aid is good, but always check with your vet.

Good Luck. It is frustrating to figure out what the allergy is.

My first reaction is if this has been going on for a while, then a vet visit is a must - to ensure there is nothing medically wrong.
Allergies are very common for dogs, and if they walk on a treated lawn they can also pick up poisons from the chemicals.
Wash them thoroughly, and put a regular sauve or vaseline on them. Since the dog will immediately try to lick this off, wrap each foot with a gauze, and to keep the bandage clean and dry, you can wrap the bandaged foot with Glad press and seal cellophane. The Glad wrap will stick to itself, so no tape is necessary, the majority of dogs cannot tear this off, and it will keep the bandage both clean and dry.

She is probably allergic to something (especially since you say it is worse if she's outside in the grass, mulch, or sand). Make an appointment with your vet before giving her any medication.

I have a dog that does this all the time. Okay, I suppose it depends on what time of day your dog does this. If she does it before a nap, it's kind of a cleaning ritual. They do it to tire themselves out. And to wake up clean. The nipping thing is probably a skin infection or a dirty spot. Is your dog out in summer a lot? Cause then she would be more likely to be bitten.

Wash them & get them clean, put some antibiotic ointment on them & wrap them in gauze. Cover the paws with an old sock and keep her inside and watch to make sure she does not pull the bandage off. Try that for a couple days to see if it helps.

My dogs have that. it's from allergies.
Please Do Not spray bitter apples or anything of that sort on her as this will make it worse and hurt her.

My Vet gave me benadryl for my dogs.

But bestb bet would be to check with your Vet.

Good Luck!!!

my shih-tzu does that too. It is because he has fleas. There are sprays out there on the market, shampoos, etc...even the vet if uncontrolled. It also can be allergies. But most likely it is fleas.

most probably has allergies. my dog had same problem. the vet said regular allergy medicines for humans work. You can giver her claritin along w/ her food. But make sure you don't give claritin D. it's supposedly deadly.
