Good for you!!! Yes, it is more to have a female spayed than a male neutered. However, very worth it. Your dog will be healthier and happier in the long run. She will be fine just listen to the vets instructions and good luck.

I would recommend waiting until the dog is at least 6 months old before you spay her. She will need some time for her little body to develop, and any surgery can stress a dog. Spaying too early can affect how your dog grows, and most dogs do not come into season for the first time until after they are 6 months old.
I am very pleased, by the way, to see that you feel it important to have your new dog spayed. There are way too many unwanted puppies born each year as it is, and responsible pet owners like you make the job of rescue and shelter workers much easier. Thank you.

All of my dogs are females and I get them spayed before their first heat, which is around five months. I prefer to have them spayed because they are cleaner to keep and they stay young longer. I've had several female dogs who have whelped pups and I find they seem to age with each litter they had. It's been messy every six months when they go into heat, and ''sissy pants'' get expensive, plus it's a consistant struggle to keep all the male dogs away. That's just my opinion, if you chose to breed your pup, wait until she is at least one years old. You want to spay your pup? Both you and your dog will be happy. She won't know the difference.
Enjoy your new addition and Good Luck.

I had my German shepherd spayed at 6 months old (before her first heat), but I think all puppies should be allowed to grow as long as possible before tampering.
"Bitches can be spayed as early as 8-10 weeks of age" [Black's Veterinary Dictionary, section: Spaying].
The procedure is much more invasive than neutering a male dog, as they actually slice her open and remove her ovaries. She needs stitches that stay in place for a week and in this time she needs to be kept quiet and take a few post op pills that your vet will give you.
All that aside, it is worth it in the end!!!

Definitely get her spayed before her first season - better for you, for her, and for all the sad male dogs who will pine at your gate for a week while she is on heat!
But if you do it when they are too young, it can lead to incontinence in old age. There is no real need to spay them before about 5 months.

some vets will spay as young as 8 weeks, if you have a vet who does pediatric spay/netuers.. some vets will not spay until she is around 6 months of age. Its best to spay before the first heat (ussually first heat starts between 6-9 months of age).

most vets will spay puppies around 5-6 months. I definetly recommend getting her spayed, they can get nasty uterine infections and some believe it helps reduce the risks of some cancers.

you should definitely get her fixed before her first heat, which she could start when she is five months old. Some vets will even do it as young and 8 weeks old.. but just ask your vet and anywhere between 5-6 months old is good. thanks for being a responsible pet owner and getting your pets fixed!
