Hey all!
Yesterday, I got a phonecall from my sister telling me my yorkie puppy of 4 months old was limping. Shocked as I was, I asked her how she started limping and my sister told me she was grooming her until my dog decided to get hyper which resulted her from falling from the table to the chair to the ground. Her left hind leg seems to be very weak thus making her limp. My friends at work tell me I shouldn't worry too much and that it is probably just sprained. If it was really broken, she wouldn't be walking at all. What should I do?

The vet can't do much for this kind of problem if you take her to the vet you will get charged $150 for medication that is not needed. Let it heal on its own. I'm sure that she will be fine in a week trust me.

Poor baby must be in so much pain, and should have been taken to the vet immediately after she fell. I don't understand why you would wait so long. Being a Yorkie and only 4 months old, she's really tiny, and falling and hitting the table then the ground, tells me, her leg is not only probably broken or fractured, but she may have internal injuries also, that you cannot see! Dogs do try walking, even when their legs are broken, because I have seen it happen! PLEASE, for the sake of your puppy, be a responsible owner, stop listening to what your friends at work are telling you, and do the right thing and take this poor thing to a vet NOW!!! You've waisted too much time already!

put yourself in the animals position. If you had fallen off say a cliff (probably what a chair seems like to a yorkie) you hurt your leg as your dog has, would you not go to a dr?? anyone with half a mind would so why should that be any different for your dog? your dog cannot talk and tell you whats wrong or where exactly it hurts, you need to be a mindreader, but since humans lack that skill, only a very with an xray machine will be able to tell you.

Animals can hide a serious injury or illness very well. In the wild if they display it, it surely means their demise. So they hide it best they can....

Bottom line that little girl needs to see her vet pronto.

so....the dog has already been suffering since yesterday and is still limping? Does that sound good? Do you really need a bunch of strangers on the internet to tell you to do the right thing by that dog? Okay, then: TAKE IT TO THE VET!

What a loser-- you posted this question and then gave thumbs down to anyone telling you to be a responsible owner. You just wanted a bunch of answers saying "it's okay for you to be a lazy slob and do nothing for your dog, because, it's only a dog after all". Your dog deserves so much more than what you are providing. You are a negligent selfish owner who doesn't care if that animal is in pain because you are too cheap or too stupid to bring it to the vet.

Why then are you asking this question? You've already decided that it's not broken ("if it was really broken she wouldn't be walking at all"). Unfortunately, in reality, it still could be broken, even a hairline fracture. Dogs with broken legs can and do try to walk. I've seen it countless times.

Why not at least take her to the vet, make sure it's not broken, and let them give her something for pain? And if it is broken, they will treat her appropriately. She deserves to be examined by a professional. Good luck and I hope that you are in fact correct, and that it isn't broken.

Puppies sometimes have a tendency for the leg to pop out of joint. They generally outgrow it but it can be bothersome or very painful. Take it to a vet to be sure, and if that's what it is, have him instruct you on how to properly pop it back in place. Or if it might require surgery.

yes take her to the vets. it could be a simple sprain but it could be brokenl, out of place, or have nerve damage the only one that can tell for sure is a vet.
For further problems a general rule to follow is if you aren't sure and htink a vet can help then don't waiste time go to the vet.

I would feel the leg first. I'm pretty sure you could feel a broken bone and if it can't be felt the dog would let you know. I guess gentle would be the word I would stress. After that I would decide on my next step.
