People cringe at the idea that a reputable/responsible breeder or purebreed dogs, that does all health testing and research necessary to put the right dogs together to ensure a healthy, stable litter, and ask $1,200 - $2,000 for what they produce.

Then you have those that have no problem forking out $500-$1,000 for a mixed breed puppy that someone thought they could make $ from. They threw together 2 different cute breeds, more than likely with NO health testing, therefor compounding potential health issues & temperament problems and slapped a catchy new name on them and call them "designer dogs". Sorry, it's a mutt!

I don't mind them in theory. Some of the best dogs in the world are mixed breed dogs. I do mind the fact that people will charge the same amount for these mixed breeds that others will charge for purebreds, even champion bred dogs. When people are charging $500 for a mixed breed dog while there are hundreds of mixed breeds sitting in shelters...it's kind of annoying. The little names are cute though.

Greatest gimmick the scam artists ever came up with. Look how many idiots fell for it. You dont have to agree with it or even like it but, its true. Every KNOW NOTHING is spending big bucks for a POS. Shame I have ethics or I could be rich. You must admit it takes a bit of genius to sell a drowning man water but, the BYB's and PuppyMIllers have done just that. Jokes on the simple minded buyers. Shame the poor dogs are really the ones who pay the ULTIMATE price.

first off call them designer dogs if that makes you or anyone else feel better but they are mixed breeds and that is all they will ever be . there is always a new name coming up for something I suppose this is just a trend that will soon pass . and to charge an extravagant amount for these dogs is just sheer stupidity and anyone who would pay it is showing their stupidity because you can get a designer dog at the local dog pound for around 50.00 where I live . good luck .

shelters are full of them.......they are your basic mutt with a cute name attached.....I think shelters should just make up some off the wall names for the dogs and hold a designer dog adoptathon!!!!!! what would be the difference? when I was growing up if someone would've tried to sell a "puggle" or some of these other mixes people would've laughed and ask were you crazy trying to make 500.00 off of a mutt !!!!! what has this world come to?

It's just an excuse to make more money, and the women who buy these dogs are Paris Hilton wannabes

My problem is not with the dogs, but with unscrupulos breeders that crossbreed for profit, and with gulible puppy buyers that plop down large sums of money for a well marketed, but poorly bred dog.

You can find them in any pound for cheap.
You don't have to buy one from a back yard breeder, puppy mill, or pet store. Don't buy mixes when you can rescue one.

A dog is a dog no matter what you call it. One is not better than another. They all have dog DNA. Marketing takes many forms. And really that is all the name is-- just marketing. But any dog, pedigreed, champion, mixed, any dog is just a dog. They all have dog DNA. None of them is better than another. And none of them is worth more than another. If they meet your criteria for a dog they are valuable.
