Okay I got a puppy from a family that locked it in the basement and neglected it. It was skinny but it wasn't in terrible condition or anything. It seems the only thing it was starved of is attention. It's a great dog, it's maybe 6 months to a year old. The only problem is that when I call her over and go to pet her, she cowers down and urinates, wether she's inside or out. I've been taking her outside and trying to teach her not to pee when she recives attention, I'd walk towards her and reach out to her and if she squats down I ignore her and dont pet her, and if she stands there and doesnt assume the bathroom position then I pet her and praise her. I also call her to me and do the same. That's all I can think to do for now until I can get her to the vet. I'm only 17 so I gotta get my paycheck from my uncle before I can take her to the vet but I'm thinking she might have an overactive bladder or something. Any suggestions?

There are several people in here who "tell it like it is" and they are acused of being rude or abusive? Now why is that? Do you not want to know the truth? Do you only want us to agree that you have done the right thing, even though you didn't?

Here are some answers that are not rude, but will answer most of the questions in here:

No, there is no home remedy for Parvo. Either get a vet to treat your dog, or be prepared for its death.

No, it is not a good idea to breed your dog. If you are in here asking questions, you haven't done nearly enough research.

If your dog isn't acting normally, call your vet. They can tell you what to do better than we can.

We don't know you or your dog, therefore, we don't care what you name it!

Are there any questions that I missed? What do the rest of you think?

I live in the Los Angeles Area and my friend needs to take his large dog, Rottweiler/Chow mix to a shelter. I have been trying very hard to help find a no kill shelter, but have had no luck. Does anyone know where he can take this dog? He is probably unadoptable because of his size. He just moved here from Texas where he had 2 acres and he now lives in a townhouse and can't keep him. He is so sad.

Yesterday he was throwing up. I took him to the vet and they took his temp and it was normal. She said to try to feed him some yoguart to settle his stomach. Normally he would have ate the yoguart but he didn't. And this morning he didn't even want to go out to go potty. He has been drinking some water but he doesn't want to eat. I tried to give him some chicken broth and he wouldn't drink it. He has been laying around all day and not acting like himself. And his breath stinks, normally it doesn't.
I am really concerned. He is my baby and I hate to see him this way when he is usually very active.
What could be wrong? His nose is dry. Is that normal?
I am just going to watch him for a couple of days unless it gets worse. What do you think?

My boyfriend bought a really thick and heavy collar for his dog claiming it will "make her stronger." I think it's a terrible thing to do... is there a max amount of weight that a dog's collar can be? I think thisw falls very closely with animal cruelty, but I am not sure.

Me and my family have been around and have had German Shepards for a while now but on one dog my dad(a retired dog trainer) has taught the dog the usual "sit, lay, beg, roll over, heel..and so on" in German. Is there any way that I'll be able to reteach the dog to understand the words in English by any chance? Thank you and all answers greatly appreciated.

and now it's going to cost me a fortune...

My chihuahua Sally and my brother's pitbull Max went outside to play one day. I just let them go run free- naturally.

Well Max got hit by a car and Sally was in heat too. I think Sally is pregnant with Max's babies.

We decided to have Max put to sleep because he was going to need too much vet care and it was going to be expensive.

At least now Sally's babies will let Max come back to us- and we can sell the rest and make some money. I hope she can deliver the babies okay- Max was about 65lb bigger than her. I don't want to ask the vet because that'll be expensive.

I didn't LET her get pregnant- it just happened naturally.

Anyone else here get very annoyed by the lack of responsibility people take for their dogs?

If you don't get your female spayed or watch her like a hawk- she will get pregnant- end of story.

Almost everything that happens to your pet is your fault.

Every time it storms or there are fireworks, my dog goes insane. It knocks things over to try and burrow and if we put it in the bathroom with a radio and the exhaust fan and the lights on, it bangs the door so hard that it has broken 3. We can never sleep if it rains either because the dog is scared when it rains too. IF there is no way to calm her, we will have to get rid of her, she is destroying our house. I've tried 3-4 kinds of pills to calm her and we've let her loose a couple times to find a "safe" place but all she does is break things. ANy suggestions?

I Just acquired 2 daschund puppies and they had fleas. At least I think they're fleas (pretty fast -like sugar ants- but do not jump). I went to the strore and everything said for puppies 12 weeks or older.

It seems to me when these dogs are loose, they run around like crazy as if they never get walked, while the dogs that are well trained on voice command are leashed! Could it be people take the leash off because the dog keeps tugging on the leash and the owner got tired of being pulled? Is it because when the dog poos, the owner can pretend he didn't see it? There are plenty of areas designated for dog exercise and training, and if you walk your dog twice everyday, the dog doesn't have anything to gain by going off leash. I know there are simply inconsiderate people. But I just don't understand what is the attraction of taking the leash off?
