Yesterday he was throwing up. I took him to the vet and they took his temp and it was normal. She said to try to feed him some yoguart to settle his stomach. Normally he would have ate the yoguart but he didn't. And this morning he didn't even want to go out to go potty. He has been drinking some water but he doesn't want to eat. I tried to give him some chicken broth and he wouldn't drink it. He has been laying around all day and not acting like himself. And his breath stinks, normally it doesn't.
I am really concerned. He is my baby and I hate to see him this way when he is usually very active.
What could be wrong? His nose is dry. Is that normal?
I am just going to watch him for a couple of days unless it gets worse. What do you think?

Oh my, I know my vet would have done more than just recomend something. We've taken dogs in with upset stomaches before and he did a LOT more. Make sure he drinks water. Take him back to the vet, or to a different one. Some dog's noses are dry. If he's not acting like himself, and not wanting to eat, take him back within a day or so. You seem like a good caretaker, it's good that you worry, even though your vet thinks that it isn't anything serious. At least call your vet and tell them what's going on and ask them. Good luck!

Dogs throw up. That by itself really isn't much to worry about. You could try making him some rice with boiled chicken or hamburger. That's easy to digest and might get him eating.

If his breath stinks, perhaps he ate something that's causing him to act sick.

As long as he's drinking, don't be too worried if he doesn't eat for a day or two. Fasting is the best way to clear up digestive problems - nature knows that and that's why your dog won't eat.

But, if he's not back to his normal self in a day or 2, he should go back to the vet and she'll need to do more than take his temp.

I think he was just dehydrated. Thats what made him barf. Stinky breathe is a usual thing for dogs. He probably doesn't want to eat, because it is so hot!! My dog is always lazy in the summer. NEVER FEED A DOG YOGURT! just don't do it. Thats so dumb. Don't give him chicken broth either. Just give him a nice comfurtable place to lay, and leave him alone a while. Make sure he has plenty of water too! :)

Put him on a doggie bland diet until it clears up and then slowly add food.

1. Give him no food until he stops vomiting/diahrea. Give plenty of water.
2. Start feeding him boiled white rice with a small amount of cottage cheese.
3. If he tolerates this well, the next day you can add a small amount of chicken broth.
4. If he's still tolerating, add a small amount of boiled chicken.
5. Then start substituting his regular food for part of the bland diet.....slowly adding more and more until he's back to his regular diet....about 7-10 days total.

If he is not eating and drinking you need to be concerned about dehydration. If he doesn't drink in a day or 2, you need to contact your vet again. IV or Subcutaneous fluids will need to be administered and possible some bloodwork or xrays. A dog having a dry nose really means nothing other than he /she is not sweating. it is NOT an indication of being ill.

Go back to the vet and have a blood test. It is not good to have a dog not eating or drinking. Throwing up is going to cause dehydration. Good Luck.

You need to take him back to the vet asap. Dehydration can be very serious. At very least call your vet today to get further instructions. Do you have an emergency vet clinic in your town? I would take him there if your regular vet is closed. Hope he gets to feeling better.

sounds like you're a good owner, with taking your dog to the vet at first sign of trouble. if he's not getting better you need to call the vet back now. don't wait a few days. you don't want the dog to get dehydrated. if he's not any better by the time your vet opens i would definatly give them a call and let them know he's not getting any better. good luck.

Granted I'm not a vet so I wouldn't know for sure but I'd say it's probably intestinal blockage. Take him back into the vet now.

This is a pay answer site but I will vouch that it was worth $15
to get an answer about my dog. An animal doctor will tell you what to do. Good luck.

Lori K just above seems to have the same advice the dog doc gave me. So follow her for now.
