My dog is on phenobarbital and hasn't gained any weight (for past 8 months). I measure his food daily. I haven't seen this problem in our epileptic patients, so am not sure. K+Br can also cause increased hunger--just don't feed him more.

My vet said to change slowly 1/4 cup at a time for 4 days and then add another 2 Tbsp. for 2 days and then another 1/4 cup for 4 days and the 2 more Tbs for 2 days and so on until they were completely changed over to prevent diarrhea and any other set back. My dog did not do too well so I had to leave her at 1/8 cup for a while and see how that went for about 3 weeks and then 2 weeks and so on she has finally adapted and is up to 2 weeks and 4 days now almost none of the puppy food, soon well most likely by the end of this month she will be all the way on the cheaper better medicine! YIPPEE!!!! I am excited!
