He sometimes steals these out of my bedroom and runs around with them until he unrolls them.

A couple reasons come to mind immediatly.

They smell like you. Even after the wash there will be a smell of you on clothing-especially socks and underwear since those areas tend to smell more than the rest of your body.

Theyre very soft. Puppies usually like those very soft stuff animals, your socks feel similiar when rolled.

Theyre fun. The unrolling makes them somewhat interactive so theyre exciting.

You should take them away though-if he learns that chewing socks/playing with socks is ok youre eventually not going to have any socks. Its best to get him puppy toys.

Many dogs have sock fetishes!! My Newfie included!! Just keep a close eye on your dog and keep socks out of reach. You don't want to know how many dogs have got an obstructed gut from ingesting a sock or pieces of socks. Surgery is the only solution once they become blocked. Watch him closely!!

You too?
My dogs always likes anything associated with feet. She gnaws on brand new shoes too so it cant be just the smell of feet.

Lately she has outgrown actually destroying the material and has only chewed off the laces of a pair of sneaker.

Total destroyed pairs of footwear 7.

The socks have survived , just needed a second wash, so they were ok.

I don't know but when my cat was young she used to do the same thing. She loved it at christmas she used to steal all the socks and put them under the tree.
