I have two dogs, female and male, both chihuahuas. I got them from different owners and I saw the mother for the female and they were the same size for the male I had. But she hasn't grown. I got her in march and I was expecting she would grow to be the same size as the other one. I found them copulating and I think she is too small to have babies. I don't know much about chihuahuas and I wasn't expecting her to be in heat so soon. I separated them now, but I think she is pregnant. I am concerned with her dieying at giving birth. Does anyone know what I should do?

Okay, so I have two puppies that are currently on Innova puppy food (dry & wet). I just recently got a new puppy and her stool has not been very solid at all, and I was worried that the Innova food might be too rich for her. So I asked my vet if I should switch her food, and to what, and he recommended Eukenuba, Science Diet, and Royal Canin. Now I KNOW the first two are not good foods, but don't know much about the 3rd. I know you can get it at PetSmart, which makes me think it is not so good. I was thinking of switching them all over to California Naturals or Canidae, since one of the older puppies has loose stool often as well. Should I pick one of those, or follow the advice of the vet?

Hi,
We recently bought a puppy from a farm here in Holland. The pups had been living outside in an old chicken run. She was 8 weeks old. When I brought her home she stayed the first two nights downstairs in the living room with my daughter. We then placed her in her kennel outside, and some teddy bears and mats etc so that she wouldn't be lonely. She cried for the first night but after that slept outside perfectly. She now knows that after her walk in the dark, she gets some treats and is tucked in, in her kennel and then the door is locked and the lights turned off. When she hears the key in the lock in the morning she wakes up and wags her tail greeting you. She's brill.
My question is living in Holland our winters are not particularly cold and she as she will be sleeping inour annex outside which is protected from the elements, what would be best for her, a quilt, straw or just a selection of cushions so that she may tunnel underneath them for comfort.

I have no interest in this. It is an academic question. I have a puggle that is very playful. She does aggressive play with other dogs, and cats, and little kids who play tug of war with her. She barks and growls at other dogs then when they come up to her she rolls on her back and licks them. My question is for real dog people (I am not, I just like my puggle but don't know much about dogs) or behaviour scientists. Is vicousness in dogs nature or nurture? Obviously certain breeds are used for fighting because of their physical power and strong jaws. But could Mike Vick and his cousins teach a harmless dog like mine to be vicious enough to engage in fights with other dogs her own size or is it all determined by breeding? Can we do rescues when we find kennels like the Bad Newz Kennel of Michael Vick? If it is all learned behaviour it should be unlearnable. If it is genetic behaviour then it is a much sadder story.

Since moving house five months earlier, my ten month of dog has had a real problem with barking.

Our backyard faces a reserve, and people often walk past. When they do, my dog will chase them along the fence line, barking at them. A group of kids have even taken to standing on the other side of the fence just to taunt her. My dog is even beginning to bark at the birds!

This is not only driving my family crazy, but our neighbors as well, and I'm concerned it's only a matter of time before someone reports her.

She is alone for around six hours a day while I'm at school and my parents at work, and her barking is much worse then. I have tried giving her lots of treats - such as bones, and toys to keep her occupied, but it doesn't help. She much prefers to rip out the plants and chew everything she can find.

I even contacted the council about shock collars (a last resort, trust me) but they no longer have them.

I seriously do not have a clue what I'm going to do with her. Help!

I have a 16 (human years) old dog. He has started to howl and whine alot lately. We already know he has bad arthritis and recently he has been diagnosed with cancer! I think its probably time that we put him to sleep and I don't want him to suffer! So, give me your thoughts!

I bought a mister system, keep the water as fresh as I can, put him in the house when I am home. I heard that his coat acts like insulation of some sort. Is that true. He has long fur. How short can I cut it without harming or dangering him.

Is it wrong to buy a puppy at 6 weeks of age? It will be given all the vaccinations that it can have up to that age before it leaves the breeder. We also have another dog that is 1 year and 4 months old that we hope it will bond to. In my state, it is not illegal to purchase a puppy of that age, and most breeders in my area sell their pups at this age.

I have a white toy maltese and he has kinda long hair and it always gets tangled up into a big hair ball. I've tried to untangle it but it is very very very hard and nothing has worked so far.
I take him to the groomers every month or twice a month. but sometimes he gets dirty and i have to give him shower and then blowdry and comb his hair which is very hard.
Do you know what dog groomers use and how they do it to untangle hairballs? Or if you don't know, just suggest something you think might work.
Please help! Thanks!

My husband and I were thinking of getting 2 sugar gliders, but I really don't know a lot about them. I've always had dogs and have taken care of very sick chihuahuas so I was wondering if anyone had any good advise or info on them? I've looked over web-site after website about them and read everything I can but really just wanna know if there's anything else I should know?
Also are they okay to have with asthma and allergies? My asthmas getting worse every year and I don't know how they are with that. I've asked on different forums for sugargliders but I never get a direct answer.

I just thought this was very insightful info...

Avocados (fruit, pit, and plant), Onions, Garlic,Grapes, raisins, tomatoes, nutmeg, caffeine, Diet products containing the sweetener Xylitol, macadamia nuts, walnuts, chocolate (baking chocolate is the most dangerous), Apple seeds, cherry, peach, plum, apricot pits, and pear pits, Raw liver or too much cooked liver , wild mushrooms, raw egg whites, Potato peels and green potatoes, dairy products and Pennies made from the 1980s to today.

The whole list and what these things do is here..

Just thought it was worth mentioning.

Our dog had puppies 2 weeks ago and they're all infested with fleas! What do we do? We were treating the momma with advntg before they were born, we've had the exterminator treat the house and yard, and they're really bad. What can I do? Can I bathe them? Can I use something organic or natural?

We have to keep our dog in a kenel all day becosue are backyard is not fenced in and he will get bored when he is let free to roam the house and will chew things. He is a 1 and a half year old yellow lab. When we get our keys to go someplace, or if it is in the morning and we all are getting ready he will go into his kennewl when its time to leave, and he also will run to his kennel when he has done something bad so we cant reach him. And he will go in there and sleep when he is tired. He is the biggest baby. He likes his kennel i think so do you think it is mean to keep him in there when we go places during the day.
