i have a 20 month old mini pin. this afternoon i noticed that he has redness and a bit of swelling in his testicles. i don't know if i should take him to the vet or just wait it out and hope it'll go away. also at what age should he be castrated?

Take him to the vet... infected swollen testicles are NOT comfortable for the dog... and can be life threatening.

He's old enough to be neutered now.

call the vet and ask. and also at what age would you like to be castrated at? never. I'm sure he feels the same way.

he can be "fixed" now. At the same time you do that would be a good time to ask your vet. But it wont matter by then.

well, if baby boys can get hernias, then maybe dogs can to. ask your vet, cuz it is painful. he should have been fixed at 3 months of age.
