I have two dogs, female and male, both chihuahuas. I got them from different owners and I saw the mother for the female and they were the same size for the male I had. But she hasn't grown. I got her in march and I was expecting she would grow to be the same size as the other one. I found them copulating and I think she is too small to have babies. I don't know much about chihuahuas and I wasn't expecting her to be in heat so soon. I separated them now, but I think she is pregnant. I am concerned with her dieying at giving birth. Does anyone know what I should do?

It's best to mate a smaller male with a larger female, but you should probably check with your vet to ensure that she's not at risk. Smaller dogs tend to have higher risk pregnancies, in general.

Up to 20 pounds. Some Chihuahuas and Pomeranians are huge.

When did you see them tied?? If the male is a lot bigger than her, sh will almost certainly need a c-section, specially if she is very tiny. Do you know how much she weighs?? Probably the best thing to do is to go ahead and have her spayed!!! If not, you stand a good chance of losing her as well as the babies.

The best thing you can do is get her spayed immediately. Smaller dogs are at greater risk in pregnancy, especially if the puppies are too big and they should never be bred in their first heat. As you said yourself, you don't know much about breeding, so you shouldn't follow through with it with you being inexperienced, a dog that is too small that shouldn't be bred in the first place and with a high risk pregnancy.

Either have her spayed, now. Or she's going to have to have the vet operate to take the puppies out when she's due to give birth. Otherwise, she could die, if one of the babies gets stuck in the birth canal.

Get her to the vet and get her spayed. If you don't know much now, either learn a lot in the next month or get both your pets fixed and don't worry about it any more.

She could die while whelping, and there are a ton of other things that could go wrong. Make a responsible decision quickly.

If the male is larger, it's entirely possible she will have complications resulting in the need for an expensive C-section. Why were the dogs not altered to prevent an unplanned breeding?

there is a possibility that she could. The best thing to do is take her to the vet and get her spayed. (and the male neutered!!!) this solves alot of problems pet owners have.

Teacups aren't a breed, they are runts of the litter, and they are too small. Most likely she will be too small to carry a litter of healthy pups. They will probably have to be taken out during a surgery.
