When you look at her coat do you see little insects 'running' through it? These are likely to be fleas and are a common cause of an itchy tail base. Home remedies rarely work well for dogs that are this bad. If it is that bad she may even need antibiotics to clear up the infection that can be caused from chewing. It takes about 3 months to properly remove fleas from your house and once monthly medication is going to be whole lot easier than daily garlic rinses or something equally ineffective. Spend some money on your LOVE and go to the vet. The vet can diagnose the actual problem and provide a cure.

if she is your LOVE you need to take her to the vet. she is biting herself until she's bleeding. do you want to spend money and possibly use the wrong home remedy to treat her? and when it doesn't work she's been miserable for that much longer. please take her to the vet. your vet will be able to properly diagnose the cause of her problem. your vet has a doctorate in veterinary medicine. i'm sure they will be able to help you more than yahoo answers. from where your dog is biting it does sound like she has fleas. while you're at the vet get a dose of frontline or advantage and apply it to her. your vet will also be able to tell you if it is fleas. all of the things you listed could be the cause, plus several more. why do you need a home remedy? it will be cheaper in the long run and quicker if you take a quick trip to your vet. good luck, you're little dog must be so miserable.

It may be the food my dog had this problem but all over his body where he would just keep itching at first we thought it was fleas but found out it was the food we were giving him. We now use the sensitive skin dry dog food still makes him itch but not as bad as before. Also just to make sure he doesnt have fleas you may wnat to take him to the vet they can tell you some other reasons why he may be itching and help him with it. I hope this helps.

It's probably fleas or flea allergy, even if you aren't seeing fleas (they would be hard to find in that hair coat). Allergic dogs can tear themselves raw for weeks over a single flea bite. Put Frontline on her for a few months, I would bet you $500 it will stop.

Flea collars and grocery store flea collars are worse than worthless. They do not kill fleas, and they are very toxic. Frontline is not absorbed by the body, it stays on the skin, and that makes it extremely safe.

It could be a number of things, or combined things.
take her to the vet:
it could be fleas, dander, pollen, mange, (eww), dry skin from too much bathing, hereditary condition in skin, heat rash, eczema, her diet, dietary deficiency, shall I go on?

I suspect it could be inherited, or heat related.
depending where you live, also dryness from the air.

have the vet check her out to be sure it's not serious.

also, try taking her walking for exercise. sometimes, this can help. you have nothing to spend but time in a walk...... and it can clear up any frustration she may also have from this condition.

good luck
