I am getting a puppy and have narrowed it down to a Havanese or Westie. If you have personal experiences with either of these dogs, what are some of their pros/cons, and which breed would be the best?

Also, I am not going to a shelter and I am not looking for info cut and pasted from the internet... I can do that. Just interested in opinions from people who have actually owned one or the other. Thanks!

I have an 11 month old Maltese. I've noticed lately that for no apparent reason, she starts to shake like she's very cold or very scared. This usually happens after she uses the bathroom. I've had her since she was 3 months old, and I know her previous owners, so I know she wasn't abused. I never get on her about her accidents, because I know it's not her fault, it's mine for not training her right. Anyone else ever see this in a dog?
Also, she is 11 months old, and hasn't had her first heat. Is this normal? My other female dog is fixed, so I don't know when to expect it.
I am taking her to the vet, but her appointment isn't for 2 weeks. So please, no comments just saying "take her to the vet"

He swallowed it last night around 7:30 - stolen from the kitchen table while I was loading up the dishwasher. Called the vet right away, he said to wait until Thursday and if it hasn't shown up to do an x-ray. The vet also said not to have him induced to throw up, he is 9 months old and weighs 33 lbs. He threw up liquid (we didn't feed him anything after he swallowed it) about every two hours last night, between 5-9 gags per session. Is there someone who has had this same thing happen, and what happened with yours - and also can I do anything to help him pass it better? The vet mentioned he would eat grass, which would bind to it to help it pass, what about rice or something...?? I'm just worried it will become blocked in his gut somewhere, it was a regular 4 inch leg bone.
Thanks

I have found a dog to adopt, and was wondering if anyone could identify this breed. It is identified as a "pomeranian X". Does anyone have any ideas what exact breed this dog is? http://www.doggierescue.com/drdb/photos/bozo2.jpg

Ok, here's the deal. My pug turns a year old TODAY. Her first heat (and ONLY heat that she's had) was in MAY.Within the last two weeks, we've taken in a male rescue mini australian sheppard who is INTACT. My female is NOT spayed, but hasn't been in heat (to my knowledge, and I'm VERY observant) since May.When we took in the rescue, he was VERY interested in mounting my pug, and I tried desperately to keep them seperate by crating him while she was out, and vice versa. There were a few times that before I could crate the other, he mounted her. Not sure if he actually GOT her though, and he surely never LATCHED ON and "stuck together" with her. He's TRIED though, and if he DID manage to get her, it was VERY breif and they didn't get "stuck" that way.Now I'm concerned though. My vet has told me to do regular "breast checks" on her to make sure she doesn't develop any lumps which could be potential tumors, so I do her regular checks. During a check today, I noticed tiny COLOSTRUM drops!

Yay! Michael Vick pled guilty to charges that he killed dogs,so he WILL spend at least 12 months in prison, and his career is most likely shot.I couldn't be happier! Who else is glad that he's getting just what he deserves ? (personally,I think he should do at least 5 years)

He is also spending a large part of the day alone in his crate and not playing with the younger dogs or hanging with the humans, which is really unusual. The inside of his ears are very warm, so I think his is running a temperature. He's not eating and drinking very little and only when i bring him a small bowl into his crate. Please help 6.5 hours till our vet opens and I'm frantic

it seems like when she hacks enough some brown stuff comes out, but that has only happened a few times. And her stomach looks a little bloated, i am really confused about what is going on because she seems more hungry than usual too, because she never eats bread and she is all of the sudden. I love my dog and she is 10 years old and i have had her for a long time. I love her so much, someone please tell me what is wrong with her.

i feed my dog pedigree natural and he has a shiny and healthy coat and lots of energy. he still sheds but not as much as he used to and he has discharge from his eyes. i was told by people on here that i should change to a better brand of dog food to stop this. now i'm hearing top brands such as beneful and eukanaba (?) are terrible foods. what foods can i buy? this is all i can afford but i want the best for my dog!
i live in australia and the only top quality looking ones are
beneful
optimum
and i forgot the rest but there's not much
i will not be making home-prepared meals but at least commerical dog food meet the requirements of a dog however if i made it myself, i wont be able to do it and ruin my dog's diet

I just bought a Boston Terrier a few weeks ago. He's about 7 weeks old now, and he's very smart. When is a good age to take classes at a pet store and work on teaching him some tricks?

It's really weird looking, however she doesn't seen to notice it. I didnt notice it until about 4 days after she was spayed. I may not have noticed it because she usually has a lot of fur where this bump is... but still. When I feel it, it feels like there is something in there. When she lays on her back and rolls from one side to the other this bump moves with her. I'm beginning to wonder if the vet left something in her. I'm guessing this isn't normal, has anyone had something similar to this happen? I'm calling the vet tomorrow about it, since it's really bugging me.

Hmm. I know what your thinking, WRONG WRONG WRONG. Rescue is your pick, I understand and totally agree. But..what are those poor dogs at the pet store going to do?! Rot and die?! Consider SAVING a dog from the Pet Store. Unless you would like to see THOSE dogs put to sleep. Just thought a different point. No negative answers please.

she always wants to play and i play with her alot but when i dont want to play i cant get her to settle down, she jumps on me and bites my hands and i tell her no and push her away, i dont know if she thinks im playing or what but when i try to push her away she starts biting my hands, so i tap her on the nose and say no and she just keeps coming back, she bites and barks and goes crazy anytime i dont want to play. Shes crazier when i dont want to play then when i play with her! I dont know what to do about it, i cant be playing with her ALL the time!

What are some original names for a dog... can be really random, can be people names... and throw in some Italian names if you want, if not, that's fine too. I'll give the winner ten points ASAP to the name I like!

I am wondering what other pet owners do to correct and stop this. I heard of a product called Angel Eyes that is a powder and you put it on their food every day. It's supposed to stop the tearing. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
