It's totally normal for a female to pass clots. As she nurses the pups it causes her uterus to contract and expel any material that is deep inside. It also happens in humans. It is a good idea to see the vet for a once over. I take my female and pups on the third day after whelping. The vet can also give her a shot to help expel it quicker if they feel need be. Also, the vet can check out the pups weight, condition and umbilical sites for hernias.

B1tches usually have a discharge for a couple of weeks after whelping, but take her to the vet as she may have some retained placenta. The vet can give her an injection which helps contact the uterus to get rid of all the stuff that's left there. She might also need an anti biotic to make sure there is no infection.

don't worry to much should get lighter in a week or so but that is normal she will lose blood for while some times it will last for up to 4 weeks after pups are born if she is not cleaning her self you keep her clean as it is so important of cause if it gets realy heavy then give the vet a call but try not to worry it will settle down good luck with pups dont forget that you can give pups warm goats milk( factor 4 )to help mum out( i am a reg breeder of bichon frise)

I rescued a pregnant dog 14 years ago,and after she had her puppies, she bled for nearly 5 weeks, and my vet checked her and said that it was normal for some dogs to do this. The dog was fixed when the pups were three months old,and she was fine. It's wise to call the vet and ask them anyway.
