He swallowed it last night around 7:30 - stolen from the kitchen table while I was loading up the dishwasher. Called the vet right away, he said to wait until Thursday and if it hasn't shown up to do an x-ray. The vet also said not to have him induced to throw up, he is 9 months old and weighs 33 lbs. He threw up liquid (we didn't feed him anything after he swallowed it) about every two hours last night, between 5-9 gags per session. Is there someone who has had this same thing happen, and what happened with yours - and also can I do anything to help him pass it better? The vet mentioned he would eat grass, which would bind to it to help it pass, what about rice or something...?? I'm just worried it will become blocked in his gut somewhere, it was a regular 4 inch leg bone.
Thanks

listen, i know your vet said to wait until Thursday, but you need to get him to the vet now. He is vomiting because of the blockage in his stomach. That is his body's way of saying "hey, we don't want this in here". Please get your dog to the vet asap and get an xray. Unfortunately, your dog may need surgery to remove the bone so it doesn't cause any other problems, it's much easier to get it out of the stomach than the intestines! Best of luck to you!

My dog had eaten a pork chop bone, but had chewed it down enough where the bone splinters were the only problem. The vet gave me a canned dog food that contained a laxitive in it. I was supposed to feed that to my dog twice a day for a few days instead of his normal dry food. By the second day, my dog was his normal ol' self again.

Don't wait. Take him to a vet or emergency hospital and have a barium swallow xray to see if he is blocked. I have a APBT that got into the garbage. She started throwing up, could not keep water down. She had a blockage that after surgery showed she had swallowed a corn cob. Without the surgery she would have died.

if pup is vomiting that is not good,, just take him in now for the x-ray... and most likely a large bone will not pass on its own.. and pssibly he chewed it a bit before swallowing which could mean chicken bone splinters in there...

if your vet cant get him in then take him to another vet...
