It's really weird looking, however she doesn't seen to notice it. I didnt notice it until about 4 days after she was spayed. I may not have noticed it because she usually has a lot of fur where this bump is... but still. When I feel it, it feels like there is something in there. When she lays on her back and rolls from one side to the other this bump moves with her. I'm beginning to wonder if the vet left something in her. I'm guessing this isn't normal, has anyone had something similar to this happen? I'm calling the vet tomorrow about it, since it's really bugging me.

She does lick it occasionally, the vet said it's nothing to worry about as long as she's not tugging on the stiches, which she hasn't been. And it's not red, it's just a little pink around the actual stiches, in between them has already closed up and is back to its normal color.

My dogs always get those, too. It's just the skin puckering and the layers of sutures underneath the skin. There may also be some "serum",which some dogs get,and a little scar tissue as well.It should go away as it heals.

The dog is going to lick at a cut, it's instinct for them. As far as the lump goes, my cat had one under the incision after she was spayed. If your pup doesn't notice it, it is unlikely that there was something left in her, trust me...she would notice. I am assuming it is just a little inflammation from the surgery and nothing to worry about. But if your pup starts to seem like she's in pain, and the bump isn't gone after a couple weeks, by all means take her to the vet and get her checked out. I applaud you for being a responsible, concerned pet owner!

Part of the problem is that she shouldn't be running or playing so soon. Our vet recommends keeping the dog as quiet as possible for ten days, which may mean keeping her in her kennel and letting her out only for necessities. And yes, if the incision is bleeding, red, or oozing, you probably should take her back to the vet and have her checked out. It may not be anything serious, but it never hurts to check when in doubt.

This really needs to be checked by a vet because it could be nothing or it could be a loop of intestine that has escaped the muscle wall of the stomach and could get in a bind. A hernia is another name. Be safe and get it checked out you wouldn't even need an appointment probably, but it is worth the time.

that sounds fairly normal. you have to remember the the suture that they use is a foreign body and your dogs body is trying to wall it off. it is all part of the healing process. as long as it isn't red and oozing, it should be ok, but call your vet to help put your mind at ease. some swelling will happen if you allow your pet to lick at the incision.

my cat had the same problem but with her it was because she was licking the wound a lot and the stitches came undone which caused an infection. The vet had to reopen the wound clean it out and stitch it back up.
Definitely take her to the vet as soon as possible.
good luck....hope the girly feel better soon

It could just be still swollen from the surgery, or perhaps some scar tissue forming. It is a good idea to take her just in case. Good luck...

It is swollen tissue and nearly all dogs get it. It should go away in a few weeks as she heals.
No worries.

My vet calls this a "healing ridge." If it bothers you, do give the vet a call.
