so tell me.....y did ur dog eat a rat? isn't it da catz job 2 eat rodents and leave presents 4 u at ur doorstep? look, if it's coughing up blood, the rat could've been poisoned or made a big hole through the dog's vowls, that could've caused the bleeding, u need to get it 2 a vet so the vet can properly extract the rat from the dog's vowls or pump it's stomach so it can't fully digest the rat b/c, as the other ppl said b4, it could b poisoned. there may b a small chance that ur dog would survive but i think it will make it if u take there immediately.

CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE THE RAT BY URSELF EITHER! if u think u could just extract the rat by tweasers - DON'T. that will only make the gash in his throat bigger and he'll choke on his own blood.

either take your dog to the vet or buy a shovel to bury a faithful friend who trusts you for care

dogs can eat a variety of things without trouble, the vomiting blood is telling me that rat may have had poison in the system even if was killed by your dog.

my little guy 7 months old now, lcoser to 8, eats everything while chewing, from CD's to soda cans, nothing has caused him trouble,

your little guy needs medical care or a funeral, you decide

but don't ride it out, waiting to see without looking in a mirror and seeing someone who failed a faithful friend

definatly get him to the vet immediatly as if the rat was poisened the dog is now poisened, and rat poisen actually burns the internal organs until they bleed, which continues until the irreversable result of death. If you get treatment soon enough it is possible to save your dog( I have been through this), although it still would ultimately shorten his life span, it is possible to save him. DON'T wait a second longer!!!! Good Luck.

More than likely your dog ate a poisoned rat.

Get him to the vet's. but if he's throwing up a lot of blood, it may be too late for him. Even so, treatment won't be cheap to save him.

Go to the vet!!! The animal could have eaten poison, set out by a home owner and now that your animal has injested it, it would have absorbed the poison itself. Emergency!

vet or emergency vet NOW! sounds like the rat may have caused some internal damage (sharp teeth and claws on those suckers!) or poisoned. rat poison kills them by preventing blod clotting so that the rat will bleed to death from the slightest bruise or cut.

My dog did the same thing earlier this summer, he might have a bone lodged in his intestines like mine did. They have something that they will give it to make the bone soften and pass smoothly. If it already tore something it may have to have surgery! TAKE IT IN NOW!
