My husband and I were thinking of getting 2 sugar gliders, but I really don't know a lot about them. I've always had dogs and have taken care of very sick chihuahuas so I was wondering if anyone had any good advise or info on them? I've looked over web-site after website about them and read everything I can but really just wanna know if there's anything else I should know?
Also are they okay to have with asthma and allergies? My asthmas getting worse every year and I don't know how they are with that. I've asked on different forums for sugargliders but I never get a direct answer.

I like you and so I'm going to spit the truth. I'm sorry about that, I just wanted to sound hard for a minute. Did it work? I was very intrigued by these little creatures too for many years. Until I got two of them that is. You can't litter box train them and they pee wherever the heck they feel like and their pee is really strong smelling. I don't even prepare meals for myself but these needy little monsters had me in the kitchen constantly chopping up fruit and vegetables for them. And they make a lot of noise. Unless you can let them roam around your house all the time, they're not content. Or at least mine weren't. They are definitely the cutest animal I can think of, actually I've been thinking about a couple more (just kidding) but it's way too much work. I think they're one animal that should not be a pet. They're just not cut out for it and your average pet owner has no idea what they're doing and the glider does not live a full, happy life.

Your best bet would be to meet with a breeder and hang out with the gliders to see how you do with your asthma. They may or may not affect it--it's an individual thing. Anyway, if you do get one, don't let it sleep in your bedroom, keep it very clean, and always wash your hands well. Using an air purifier can help a lot. Here's my favorite glider link:

sugar gliders are great animals but make sure you keep there cage in another room cause they like to play at night and tend to get loud. I dont think it could affect your asthma cause i have never seen mine shed. make sure you stay on top of them if you want to train them couse in this case you cant teach a old dog new tricks. They need alot of attention. Get one they are a great pet

They're like flying squirrels, but from a different part of the world.
