i would like to start a project in my county where i would collect money and help pay for fixing dogs and cats. but how do i start? can you just do this? or do you have to go through the town and how do i find a vet who will help etc? and if i do this am i allowed to keep a small part of the money for gas etc? i am not rich at all so this would be rough on me to pay for all the gas and signs etc. anyway any ideas would help. thanks...

thanks for the help so far. i hate to sound like i am bad mouthing but to be honnest our animal shelter is not very good they have no help we have no animal control officer and our building is so old. and it stinks and is way over crowded in fact they cant even take in anymore dogs or cats rite now and i have asked them if there is a fund for spaying but they said no and they were not interested in it. (not sure y) to me it would seem like if they fix the animals before adopting them out it would help some.

you would have to call vet's in your area and tell them what you are doing and why you are doing it. as for the money you can ask animal welfare projects in your country about it!
Good luck!

You are looking to do a non-profit organization. You can be reimbursed for money you spend in order to run the organization, but you cannot personally profit from a non-profit organization.

I would suggest doing a search on the net for other non-profit organizations like this. They might be able to get you in the right direction.

Do understand that there is a HUGE amount of work that would go into starting something like this. It's an excellent cause tho!

You would have to start your own non-profit organization. This could end up being very expensive to start up--you would need to consult a lawyer, and non-profits have very specific rules about what you can do with the money. You would need to do a lot of research.

Have you contacted the local shelters in your area? If there is already a low-cost spay/neuter program, perhaps you could volunteer to help them and collect money for them. If there isn't a program already in your area, perhaps you could contact a local shelter and meet with them and discuss starting a program there. Shelters typically have relationships with one or more veterinarians in the area and would be a tremendous help to getting a program started.

If you do volunteer to help with an already-existing program, it would be a great learning opportunity to be able to start your own program someday.

first take a trip to town hall, they should be able to tell you if there is any documents you need to fill out. then i would call vets out of the phone book and see if one would be willing to help maybe even give you a discount. after that think of ways to get you idea out there, like a fundraiser. bake sales, cookout, raffles etc.etc.
as for gas what you can do is make that a part of the cost of raising money along with the signs and other necessities.
