The do NOT make a GPS implant. They do make a GPS collar, but it is expensive. They do work well, you can track the dog via computer. BUT if the dog is stolen someone can take the collar off.
I have my dogs microchipped. Register the chips with my info. And I obedience train my dogs ! I also check fences anywhere I expect them to be. I keep my dogs safe, train them, put ID tags on their collars and chips in them.
In over 30 yrs. of owning dogs, I've had mine get out maybe 4 times.
1. Gate was left open, my Sheltie, stayed on the porch, would not leave even when Animal Control tried to call her off the property.
2. Whippet puppy, had been walked daily in several directions so she knew where home was, she got herself home later that night.
3. Fence blew down in a storm when I was away on vacation, had home and work numbers on the ID tag. My boss came and got my Borzoi from the rescuer and kept him till I got home.
4. Puppy ran out a door, I called her she came back.
Look into obedience training. I go to Obedience Training Club classes, cheaper than a private trainer.
Exercise the dog daily on a leash, off your property. Bored dogs run away. Train the dog. Teach the dog that YOU go through doors first, not them.
I highly recommend Dog Whisperer (Cesar Millan), the show, the books, the DVDs. Also google Nothing In LIfe is Free.
Train, don't complain. Forget a GPS implant. Fix your fence, teach the dog not to go out the door without a leash, fix the situation !!! How/why is this dog getting loose???
My dogs can outrun me. Whippets can go 35mph. I train mine on leash and then off leash so they come when I call, no matter what.

Sarah b is correct - keep away from stray dogs especially as there are two of them. Dogs are pack animals - the same as wolves are and if they feel threatened, they may turn on you. The other thing is, as they are strays, they probably haven't had any rabies vaccinations and if one, or the other, has been bitten by a wild animal which was rabid (squirrel or raccoon), a bite will cause any human who is bitten to have serious hospital time. The best Good Citizen thing you can do is to ask you parents to call Animal Control so they can come to get the dogs. If they're hungry enough, and depending upon how large they are, they might attack someone's small child or other small animals in your neighborhood and I don't think you would want to have nightmares about this, would you? So - please, do the right thing and have your parents call someone to come to get them. Thank you.

I don't know of a GPS chip but I do believe in microchipping. Alot of vetrinary clinics will scan any "new" pet for one so that if it was a lost dog it can be reunited with it's owner. Also our local animal shelter will scan for them automatically. If it's the first time they've had that dog in their shelter they'll have an animal control officer bring your dog home free of charge.
It was worth the cost for us considering my dog is HUGE and probably wouldn't have much chance of being adopted if she was turned into a shelter. That and she loves to run...so far we've been lucky she doesn't run to far.

They don't have GPS for dogs--at least not yet! A microchip is a wonderful way to identify your dog. Most shelters scan lost dogs for chips, and if your dog is registered they can look up your info and get your dog (or cat) back to you quickly. This is good insurance, as pets can lose their collars or I.D. tags. We microchip all the time--it is about the size and shape of a grain of rice. It is given like a shot and is there forever.

My dog has a microchip. Actually he ran away a few months ago and I found him but I ended up letting the family that found and cared for him adopt him. It was really, really hard as he was one of the best dogs I've ever met but it's what he wanted. He lives in Ohio now and I'm still stuck here in Florida. Those chips aren't the end all be all to reuniting you with your pet but they are definitely a step in the right direction.

Have you ever heard of microchipping? Its done at the vets. They insert a tiny tracking chip under the skin usually on the neck, then they record your dogs name and your name and address .If your dog goes missing and is found by someone else they can get him traced back to you.We have ours microchipped.I dont know about you but in our country it is a very common practice.

dont give GPS to a dog, it's not a Car is it? didn't think so, if you have a Vet and im sure all pet owners do go to him or her and ask about getting your dog a "Chip", they'll know what you mean, it's a little chip that they implant under your dog's skin and when he/she runs away and someone like a dogcatcher or a vet or a rescue place finds the dog they scan his/her neck and voila... all your personal information is shown to the person, liek home phone, address, town, and full name... this is to make sure that the dog belongs to someone, and if they get the chip's info. they call you up and say you lost your dog come pick him/her up or something i never lost mine but if your thinking about the chip i just explained i just hurt my habnds for nothing but yeah get the dog GPS, it only aids in getting your dog back... but i reccomend getting a collar with your dogs name and your home phone too, even with the chip to let your neighbors know puppy is yours cuz they dont have scanners

yes, absolutely!!!
It's a little tiny microchip that has information on it (also your contact info).
it is very very small, so small that it is simply "shot" under the skin with a regular needle that's used to give shots.
especially if you dog runs away alot, you should definitely do this.
Did you know that some animal shelters put the animals to sleep if they have not been claimed after 3 days or so?!?!?!
get a chip!

I've never heard of implanting a GPS transmitter in a dog.
Do you mean the RFID chips? I have those in all my animals. Even the stritcly indoor cats.
At $30 apiece it's a cheap way to increase the chance of seeing your pet again.

I actually chip all of my dogs and also the puppies that I sell. I have had numerous buyers thank me for doing this, as they have had their dogs stolen or lost and the chip got them back home!!!
