We have to keep our dog in a kenel all day becosue are backyard is not fenced in and he will get bored when he is let free to roam the house and will chew things. He is a 1 and a half year old yellow lab. When we get our keys to go someplace, or if it is in the morning and we all are getting ready he will go into his kennewl when its time to leave, and he also will run to his kennel when he has done something bad so we cant reach him. And he will go in there and sleep when he is tired. He is the biggest baby. He likes his kennel i think so do you think it is mean to keep him in there when we go places during the day.

well it depends on how long you will be gone. it is a safe spot for a dog. and sometimes dont think of it as being mean, he likes it. to him it isnt a kennel, its a "den". His own place to go where nothing can bother him. just make sure that he has a toy or raw-hide bone to chew on. this will keep him occupied. also, when you get home make sure to take him on walks outside and to play with him a lot. he probably wants to stretch his legs and play with someone! put him on a leash and run around the neighborhood!

another thing you can do is before you go to work, school, etc. play with him a lot!! this will tire him out so he will sleep most of the time when he is in his kennel.
hope this helps!!

Keeping your dog in a kennel while you are not at home is the responsible thing to do since your yard is not fenced. Just make sure he gets lots of play-time and exercise every day and keep his kennel clean.

dogs sleep about 85% of the time. That's a real nimber...even in neture they sleep that much. WHen you're away the dog generally sleeps. He obviously likes sleeping in his kennel...so it isn't mean at all. I prefer to keep dogs crated when we're out too. It cuts down on damages, they're much more secure, and if there's ever a fire or an emergency...firemen will always grab a crate...they won't look under the beds for a dog though...

My back yard is fenced so the kennel gates are wide open.
Kinda hot out this afternoon so all the dog are in their runs stretched out sleeping in the shade.

I don't think it's mean, he's safer in there than he is in an open yard and you're stuff is safer when your not around. As long as this isn't a case where he's in the kennel CONSTANTLY (i.e. not going for walks, not given time to run, etc) then it's not wrong =]

Not at all. As long as he has some shade and water it is fine. Safe from cars and other animals. I am guessing you take him out when you get home and exercise and play with him.

Not at all, it is for his safety would you like to come home and find him dead from chewing up a lamp?
