They should drink 6 to 9 cups of water a day.

if you dont know how much is enough, you should not be limiting their water.

ALL dogs need clean fresh water available to them 24 hours a day.

if BOTH dogs are drinking a lot, then its probably not a lot..... you just think it is, it would be rare for two dogs in one household to have a problem that makes them drink a lot.

if you are limiting their water they are probably just really thirsty and are getting as much in as they can before you take it away again.

Limit their water? You shouldn't - keep a full bowl of water for them and they will drink as much as they need.

All dogs should have access to water 24 / 7 http://www.longliveyourdog.com/careguide/carenutrition/carenutritionnutrition/water.aspx

Are they inside dogs or outside? If they are outside, in this terribly hot westher, they should not have any restrictions on water at all. If inside, maybe half a gallon each a day.

dogs have a different feeling each day so I'd think that you can give your dog a dog bowl of water especially when you have just taken him out for a walk. they would ask you for more water when they need more.
