Since moving house five months earlier, my ten month of dog has had a real problem with barking.

Our backyard faces a reserve, and people often walk past. When they do, my dog will chase them along the fence line, barking at them. A group of kids have even taken to standing on the other side of the fence just to taunt her. My dog is even beginning to bark at the birds!

This is not only driving my family crazy, but our neighbors as well, and I'm concerned it's only a matter of time before someone reports her.

She is alone for around six hours a day while I'm at school and my parents at work, and her barking is much worse then. I have tried giving her lots of treats - such as bones, and toys to keep her occupied, but it doesn't help. She much prefers to rip out the plants and chew everything she can find.

I even contacted the council about shock collars (a last resort, trust me) but they no longer have them.

I seriously do not have a clue what I'm going to do with her. Help!

I only wish I knew...I have the same problem. So far whenever I hear my outside dog barking at something I go outside and check and then praise him when he becomes quiet. It's working a little and his barking stops the second I check on what he is barking at. He knows to stop when I go out and that he gets a treat when he is quiet, however like your problem I have a group of kids who have taken to doing the same thing and I can not get the dog to stop barking at them because they bark at him and run back and forth in front of the fence taunting him. I have tried asking them to stop but they don't.And bark collars did not work for my dog when I tried one of those. While everyone is gone for those 6 hours you should try putting her in an outside dog kennel with privacy screen away from the fence line if possible.Good luck and I think if you train your dog to alert you and then praise her it should help to keep some of the barking down.

i offered a no-bark collar for my Shepherd (it incredibly works great) that has 15 stages. There are 3 settings (low, med and severe), and each placing has 5 diverse stages. each time the canines barks, the backside point in regardless of placing you have it on is used. If the canines barks lower back interior 30 seconds, the subsequent point is used, etc. Having an incredibly great canines, i did not pay interest to what the pronounced length for the smaller canines have been. the only different difficulty i'm able to think of of is to have the canines debarked. It does not end the habit, merely stops the sound.

We use a bark collar that sprays citronella whenever the dog barks. It gets her to stop barking, is much more humane than a shock collar and is very effective. The brand we use is the Multivet Anti-Bark Spray Collar. You can find them at some pet supply stores. We bought ours online at Ebay. Good luck.

It's really nice to get to know your dog and any information you can get on dog training will serve you in other ways, like dealing with people. lol It will bring you closer and you'll enjoy the experience a lot more. Quicker fixes aren't really good at all. It's really a lot of fun, you'll be surprised and proud. And Fifi will be happier too, and thank you. Everyone in the household will benefit from what you find out. You can become an expert real quick. He probably needs to be around new people more and other dogs, like at the park. Dogs are social too.

I had a similiar problem and I purchased a collar at Petsmart. They have a few different options. I tried two of them but the only one that worked was the shock collar. I did it on myself before I put it on my dog. It doesn't hurt...but it's pretty uncomfortable. Now my dog knows not to bark at least when he has it on. It's better for all of us we don't get kicked out of our apt complex, the dog is happy and doesn't howl and bark all day.

There are some useful tips in the website below:
http://perfectpaws.com/bark.html

You should spare more time for her obedience training and try to socialize her with other dogs and play with her as much as possible. Perhaps you can try to make her tired before you leave home for school. So she can rest all day and ignore the other people trying to taunt her. (I know that means getting up too early but it can solve your problem and results may make you happy)

Good luck
