We live in a canyon with lots of animals around including coyotes. My 2 year old Pomeranian was killed yesterday, by what it seems, coyotes. I know that small dogs aren't supposed to be outside, but he was in the gazeebo and I went to take him in, and he was lying dead. My mom said she said a bite wound on his stomach. I was wondering if coyotes are afraid of people, and if there's anyway that they wont be able to jump over our fence and try to kill our other dog.?
Ty so much! I appreciate all your answers. This is a very tragic moment for me.

Hi I was thinking about adopting a 2 year old rottweiler. He is a male and he comes from a family with young children. What I was wondering is, how much drool and chewing is involved with this breed?

thank you.
Any more advice would be appreciated

I'm looking for a dog to keep in a rather small apartment where pets are forbidden. But a roommate feels she needs companionship. So I'm wondering if there is a dog out there that doesn't bark and doesn't shed. Any ideas?

Myself and my husband are looking into getting a dog, I do not want a big dog at all & not a tiny dog. We have been looking at the Patterdale's as they look and sound to us that the patterdale would fit nicely in our home. We have a big house, lovely back garden and we are surrounded by woods and other dogs in our street.

BUT one web site says that patterdale's will not get along with other dogs BUT another web site says they will. I know that it all depends how we bring the puppy up as we are planning on getting a puppy.
Also we are not sure if the patterdale likes children or young children? I say again, one web site says they do, another says they don't all depends on how you train them.

We would like to get a patterdale for a pet not a working dog, just as a pet. We will take it for walks, I say nearly everyday as I hear they don't like the cold (wether that's true I don't know), too play ball with to relax with and feel comfortable with.
Could someone please help me? Thank you..

Pit bulls are bred to fight and kill other dogs. They should be outlawed.

After a careful search we located and contacted a german shepherd breeder 3.5 hours away from us.

1. the breeder is akc member and all their dogs are registered
they have been breeding for 6-10 years.
2. The breeder has a webpage, where he posted the pics of all their sires and females and clearly indicated which ones are the puppies' mom and dad
3. they welcomed our visit
4. they charge100$ deposit and total of 500 dollars per pure working line (mix between american and german line).
5. these pups come with 2 year health guarantee by the breeder and the breeder agrees to take his pups back in case we cant keep her/him.
6. the give away the pups at 6 weeks old after they administer their first set of vaccination and deworming.

what do you all think? does it sound like a good breeder?
i guess i am having hard time differentiating a good breeder from a puppy mill or so called backyard breeders. please, any advice on this matter will be highly appreciated.

my dog, hannah, is a very very skilled dog. she is very athletic and loves to run. she knows a lot of tricks and i am still working on her training. hannah is a golden lab mix, and she is quite small for her breed, with long legs and a slim body. i am working on getting her to jump over jumps, except she always goes around the jump and not over it. this probaly sounds silly because thats what happens when you start to train them, they just don't go right over the jumps. hannah loves to jump and run so i thought why not teach her some real jumps? so i have a small coarse set up in my back yard that i have been working with her on for about 40 minutes (again, i know it takes time to learn these things, but it seems its not sinking in on her that she should go over the jumps.) i give her treats everytime because i don't want to discourage her, but how do i encourage her when she is doing something wrong? so how do i get her to go over the jumps and not around them??? thanks

My 5 month old puppy has a little cut above her nose that I think she may have gotten from the groomers. I noticed it was bleeding a little today so I washed it with warm water and put some hydrogen peroxide on it with a cotton ball. Is this something I should keep doing to make sure it doesn't get infected? Is hydrogen peroxide ok to use on dogs? I am careful not to get any in her eyes...just want to make sure that is alright for dogs.
