It breaks my heart to see how many dogs without permanent homes. Dogs ask nothing of the human race except for love food, water and shelter. How hard is that. My personal opinion of the human race is that somewhere along the way we are losing our humanity and compassion. We place so little importance of the well-being of animals, when they ask so little of us. In the last 12 years, I have rescued 4 cats and 3 dogs, and found homes for 7 litters of kittens. I would foster and own more if I was financially able. It angers me to see so many wonderful animals with no home! People need to take responsibility for their animals. If you obtain an animal, make a committment to devote your time to giving that animal a home for the rest of it's life. Don't give up so easily, because they are an inconvenience to you, or they need a little extra training, or care. Animals are not disposable. The are living, breathing, loving creatures that just need loving.

Sorry for the sermon, but I am passionate for the well-being of animals.

That is very sad. Anyone thinking about breeding should research how many homeless dogs there actually are. And, before getting a dog people should do some research on behavior, training, etc. Many want a cute dog that will love them, but aren't willing to put in the time or energy it takes to make a good dog. Then they end up in shelters, or worse, the pound.

That website should be given when anyone talks about breeding a dog. OBVIOUSLY there are enough already. And it just makes me so mad that some people are such snobs about dogs. I mean, I don't have a problem with purebred dogs, but stop inbreeding the crap out of them! I love my mutt. He is the best dog ever. I rescued him from the shelter! And I too wish there weren't any homeless dogs (or cats).

CNN just ran a report saying over half the dogs euthanized in this nation are pits. And almost all the killings and maulings are from pits. What do people expect will happen when they choose to breed them? At least some of the puppies will die. It is a fact of life.

The stats are sad for sure, but whatcha gonna do, all my pets are fixed, so I don't contribute to the problem.
I'm beginning to think they should do what they do in Europe on pet ownership. You have to pay a income tax on your pet(s). This keeps the pop. down a lot.
I wouldn't think that they would be adopting out fighting pits though, if they are, then I have a problem with petfinders. If they've been used for fighting then the need to be put down, they are unstable dogs.

Over 16,000 homeless labs just on petfinder and more morons breeding them everyday. So sad.
I hate to know there is 1 homeless dog, let alone that many. It's heartbreaking.

Most homeless dogs are pitbulls because the animal cops rescue them from dog fighting owners. People think pitbulls are vicious animals, therefore they don't want to adopt one because they think that they are violent, not being smart enough to realize that if they're violent, its because of what they were taught, it isn't their fault. I'd adopt a pitbull if i could, but big dogs aren't allowed in my apartment. And yes, the statistics are very sad. Unbelievable, really.

Just look at the Labrador Retrievers! 16,000 twice that of the pittbulls! A lot of people take in Labs thinking that they want a dog but they realize they are too much work and dispose of them! That is awful.

Pitbulls and most of the "popular" breeds are abandoned people shoudl think before buying a dog not running to apet store and dumping it a month after.
