I am having a problem with my dogs digging holes and I have tried everything out there. Some one had told me to use chilli powder or anything that is spicy. Can it hurt my dog at all???

Here is some info from a site that I find to be the best. I took my dog to a trainer for this reason and the trainers recommended this site. My dog hasn't dug in quite a while...with some training your pup will be good to go. Good luck.

Dogs dig for a variety of reasons.
1) Dogs will often dig out of boredom. If you leave your dog out alone in the yard for any length of time, he may dig just for something to do. Play with him out there, or provide him with chew toys or interactive toys like a Kong or Pet Planet rubber toy with treats stuffed inside.
2)Digging is often used as a means of escape. Your dog may want to leave a fenced yard because there are so many more interesting things to do elsewhere.
3) If you have an intact (unspayed, or unneutered) dog, he or she may be digging to escape in order to mate with another dog. If you do not plan to breed your dog, a good way to prevent digging for this reason is to neuter him or spay her.
4) Since deeper layers of soil tend to be cooler, your dog may be digging to find relief from the heat. Always provide a cool, shady place for your dog to rest when he is outside.
5)Dogs are great savers. They will bury bones or other treats 'for a rainy day' when they may need them.
6)If you use bone or blood meal to fertilize your garden, the scent may be irresistible. A dog may dig and dig trying to find that nonexistent bone.
7)Any dog may dig to excavate a den. A female dog may dig in order to provide a nest for babies, whether she is pregnant or not.

Dogs that dig holes are bored dogs. Try giving them toys with treats hidden inside, lots of play time, and creating a pen area, with fence dug deeply, to keep them enclosed when you aren't there to watch them. Bored dogs are good dogs just not being engaged. Powders only work on slow dogs as most can dig a hole so fast the powder never gets up their noses.

Dogs dig holes,,either to escape or to get cool. The ground is cool & them laying in it helps them stay cool.Make sure they have shade all day long,,even a cheap plastic pool. No chili or spices will not hurt them,,but may mess with their smell for awhile.

i don't know how to get your dog to stop digging, but chilli pepper is a bad idea. it has the same effect on people when it goes up their nose. they start hacking and coughing and their eyes start watering. this would also happen to your dog because his nose is the first thing he's going to stick into it.

Chili powder is fine, but I suggest a motion detecter. Dogs are terrified of loud noises, and if you put a little motion detecter near their favorite digging spots, the loud noise will alert you, and even if it doesn't, the noise might scare them.

Try calling Bark Busters, I've used them and their technique is simple and effective but you have to work with the dog.

No it can't..it doesn't work either...dogs are persistant...really the only thing that will work now since he is getting away with it is to bring in a dog trainer into your home to train him properly

i doubt it...some dogs though do like the spicy stuff....i would try the water bottle technique....it is where everytime you see your dog start to dig or act like its getting ready to...squirt it w/the water bottle (and just keep it water in there...nothing else)...it seems to work for my dog....
