There's no such thing as a "Teacup" Yorkshire Terrier. "Teacup" is a fancy name slapped onto very small dogs, often the runts of the litter, to sell them for huge amounts of money. These so-called "teacups" are sold by irresponsible backyard breeders and puppy mills that don't care one bit about their puppies. No good breeder would ever label their small dogs as "teacup". These extremely small dogs are so tiny that they need special care, are extremely fragile, could possibly end up with many health problems and can cost $1,000+ which is absolutely ridiculous. You will NOT find one responsible breeder that sells "teacup" Yorkshire Terriers. Realize that if you ever purchase a "teacup" Yorkshire Terrier, you'll be supporting a horrible and irresponsible backyard breeder or puppy mill. According to the AKC, a Yorkshire Terrier should not exceed 7 pounds. If that's the case, all Yorkshire Terriers less than 7 pounds is within the weight limit. That means even a tiny 2-3 pound Yorkshire Terrier is still within breed standards. If even a tiny 2-3 pound Yorkshire Terrier is still within the weight limit, it's useless for irresponsible breeders to slap on the "teacup" name because it doesn't make any sense. I highly recommend you look into a Yorkshire Terrier rescue or on http://www.petfinder.com for Yorkshire Terriers in your area. If you do plan on getting a Yorkshire Terrier from a breeder, please do your homework and learn how to tell an irresponsible backyard breeder from a responsible and reputable breeder.

An average Teacup Yorkie will cost you around $1,000 and up! A female Teacup Yorkie will cost you more than a male. There are also Toy Yorkie's which are similar to the Teacup ones, only they are "toy" dogs.

Because of breeding necessary to make pups so small they are pretty costly. They range from 1500 to 4000 dollars. Do a search for yorkies ,,there are alot of breeders online...In reply to Hu4L`3, IMC, Faith, & Isaacs... YES there is such an thing as a TEACUP yorkie. Yes there are breeders that have them. Also because of their size GOOD kennels gurantee health,,,,this is another reason for their price,,the kennel needs to pay for the vet bills they have to see if the dog is healthy. A friend of mine got 2 from the retired breeder,,,one weighs 1.6 pounds the other weighs 2 pounds...Wayne

Hunny I hate to break it to you but there is no such thing as a teacup Yorkie. Yorkies come in only one standard size weighing about 7lbs. All breeders may occasionally have an unusually small Yorkie (hopefully healthy), though no responsible breeder breeds for this trait. Many breeders prefer a general weight range of 4-7 four pounds believing that size retains desired Toy qualities while maintaining optimum health. The Yorkie Standard states weight "must not exceed seven pounds" and as a prospective pet owner you should realize that even at 7 pounds, the Yorkie is still a small dog. Females weighing less than 5 pounds are considered by most breeders to be unsuitable for breeding. Special circumstances often come with extra tiny dogs. They are extremely susceptible to both hereditary and non-hereditary health problems, including birth defects that may go undetected for a long time.Other common problems may include, but are not limited to, diarrhea, vomiting, along with
extra and expensive tests prior to routine teeth cleanings and surgeries. Small ones are more likely to have poor reactions to anesthesia and die from it.Tiny dogs are more easily injured by falls, being stepped on and being attacked by other dogs. These health problems nearly always result in
large veterinary bills. Please take this into consideration and make purchasing a healthy pet your top priority, not size. The “novelty” is certainly not worth the pain, heartbreak, or
extra expense. Remember, all Yorkies are comparatively small. The most important thing is finding a healthy puppy that will grow into a healthy adult, especially since you looking at an 11 to 15 year commitment with your Yorkie. Check out www.petfinder.com for Yorkies or try the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America for a breeder referal http://www.ytca.org/frame_index2.html
-EDIT-
You people are foolish! There is no such thing as a teacup anything! You all have just bought overpriced badly breed dogs. Im sorry but most of what I typed above was taken directly from the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America. Any breeder that markets a dog as being teacup is a BAD breeder. No reputable breeder would EVER breed undersized dogs to get more small dogs. In fact breeders will not breed a Yorkie that is under 4lbs because they consider it too risky and they are into breeding to BETTER the breed NOT to make money. There are only two reasons why someone would sell a "teacup" anything. One being fraud, Some unscrupulous breeders advertise teacup Yorkies to take advantage of those people who are not very familiar with Yorkies. By telling someone that they are getting a "teacup", they make the buyer feel that they are getting something special . Beware, many of these people also advertise "toy" and or "standard" Yorkies with weights up to 10 or 12 pounds. As stated above, a standard Yorkshire terrier must weigh no more than 7 pounds. The second reason being ignorance. Sadly, there are people out there breeding Yorkshire terriers who simply aren't knowledgeable enough about Yorkies to know that there is no such thing as a "teacup". One can only imagine their general breed knowledge and the quality of their puppies. To those of you who have supposed "teacups" you have been scammed, to those of you who know friends that breed them, they are ill reputed breeders BYBs at least.

There is so term "teacup" that most breeders do use. It depends what breeder you get it from. The smaller they are though, the more expensive. I know in my state they go for about $1,000 to $1,500.
