This is a serious question. I've been doing pet rescues & getting them "fixed" is part of the process.

Breeds of dog that are good with kids as in they will stand over the kids and like protect them and stay next to them even when the doorbell rings. I know this comes also with training and bonding but I know that there are some breeds of dogs that will naturally enjoy doing this.

And what about horsedogs? You know the ones that love following you while you ride?

First of all I am NOT a breeder. I read somewhere that in Golden retrievers, white retrievers and black retrievers(not talking about flat coated) are undesirable. Why is that?

I have a female cocker spaniel. She is a year and 4 months old and around 20 lbs. I was planning on getting her spayed sometime in the near future. She is very hyper right now. I have asked many people if I get her spayed will she be less hyper. Some say yes and some say no. When dogs are spayed are they less hyper? And what are other Advantages/Disadvantages to spaying a dog?

I have an 8-year-old yellow lab (sweetest dog in the world, btw). She's not a normal lab; she's afraid of the water, she's not that smart, and her vet diagnosed her with OCD, but I've noticed this behavior to be odd. She's getting kinda old, almost 9, but she can be full of energy one minute, then be laying on the floor sighing. Is this normal with labs?

I disagree. I used to put that dog out when I put my other dog outside to potty. The new owner says I lied to her, I did not.
She is really mad. I told her to bring the dog back if it was such a problem.
Who is right?

it has been about 3 days now and my 5 month old mini-doxi is not acting the same. If she is not eating, playing with her brother and aunt, or chewing a treat she is flipping out! she sits and braks at us. not only does she sit and bark... she BITES and bites HARD! this behavior is new... she never acted like this as a baby. I am SO confused? I though maybe she is bored? but we play all the time, and she gets MORE then her share of attention, so that is not the case...
ANY IDEAS?

His teeth, mainly in the very back, have a green/brown shell covering his tooth. His breath is horribly indescribable. I used to be able to scrape it off, and that was the only way to get rid of it and make his breath smell a little better. It's getting harder, and he's being even more stubborn and pushing my hand away, and I realy don't want t hurt him. His gums are swollen and red and I'm so afraid that they hurt him, like when he eats. I think he has like dog gingivitus. I brushed his teeth once, and there was soooo much blood, and I can't bare to put my dog through pain. But, I will if it will make his teeth healthier and less painfull. Should brush his teeth often, maybe like every other day, so his teeth and gums become stronger and healthier? This was my idea, but I wasn't sure and just wanted to check on it. And if i should brush his teeth, is there a certain dog tooth paste that can be used? Please helpp!! Thanks.

Ok first of all I am not a breeder, I don't have dogs and I do NOT plan on breeding dogs at any time in my life.

Second of all I am not asking what the risks are. Third of all HOW COMMON is it for a dog to die during birth(the female giving birth) and HOW COMMON is it for a dog to have complications during birth.

I want to know HOW COMMON it is not the risks of giving birth.

My parents were given a 10 week old Boston Terrier pup, male. They got him last Tuesday. They noticed that he bled a few drops at the end of his poops, bright red drops. He also has been defecating ALOT. He is eating Purina One puppy food, I think. The guy who gave it to them swears he was fine and even checked out OK at the vets when he got his shots. ANY IDEAS what might be wrong with him? Other than that, he is frisky and happy and plays, they say. They are calling his old vet on Monday, but I wanted to ask yall what you think!
PLEASE give me your opinion!
THANKS

My 90lb American Bulldog's left front paw is a bit swollen and he is limping really bad. It doesn't look broken or fractured, but may be sprained. I am putting ice on it periodically and am going to take him to the vet on Monday if it doesn't get better. At this point he doesn't even want to walk but 3 steps and stops. Can I give him tylenol or aspirin or anything else for the pain until I can get him to the vet??? Thanks!! I'm so worried for him. (frown)
