How much does your cat weigh? Under 9lbs or over 9lbs? Most if not all topical flea medications have to be applied according to the animal's weight- if you use the under 9lb dose on a cat that weighs 10 or more pounds, the animal will not get the full benefit of the product. Do you see where I'm going with this? The reason why the Hartz product did not work is because the fleas are immune to it. Ever heard of the saying "You get what you pay for?" Anyway, Advantage as a topical medication works by killing adult fleas and eventually the flea eggs if you use it consistently- 1 dose is applied once a month, and your cat is protected for that month until the next dose is applied. So you can use the Advantage at anytime- just not with other topical flea control medications like the Hartz products. Hope this helped.

It'll be quite safe - it'd be safe a few days after. It's Hartz itself that is harmful, not mixing it with Frontline, which is not harmful.

If you want extra assurance, ring Merila (the company who make Frontline) - their number will be on the box. Don't leave your doggy with fleas any longer!

And please help spread the word to all you know what you've just found out - Hartz doesn't work! (and is potentially harmful, like most petshop products)

EDIT: No point in bathing the dog 3 weeks after applying the Hartz, if it was going to cause harm it would've done by now! Also, don't bathe an animal within 3 days of applying Frontline - Frontline requires the natural oils of the skin to work, so you mustn't wash these off by bathing.

Honest to God I wish that company would just go out of business! I don't see why the FDA hasn't banned them altogether!!!

Figuratively speaking-I wouldn't use Hartz on a guinea pig!!!!

Call the Vet and ask them if its ok to start poodle pooch on the Frontline. Pretty sure its ok but ask anyway. I personally use the tubes put out by Sergeant's Nature's Guardian. You can get these products at Walmart and they are totally natural herbals. They work wonderfully for my 60 pounder which is a Beagle-Walker-Hound. One tube once a month, her size is '60-90' and just like the other writer stated "PLEASE DO NOT USE HARTZ" as I've also had trouble with their flea treatments, in fact, my vet told me NOT to use their flea treatments as it has been known to cause internal damage to organs and the like.
She said the main reason is that they do not monitor the input amounts of chemicals in their products and they have been responsible for more emer. vet visits by their products such as flea treatments than any other product manufacturer. They just don't monitor well at all.

For Heartworm, though, I am a big proponent of "Heartgard" and I have had no problems with it at all. But don't order it from Pet Meds as your Vet will not guarantee any medical treatments if it doesn't come from their office. None of the vets here will sign off on Rx's for it unless you purchase it at their office.

But again, Get the herbals, they come in a green package, called "Sergeant's Nature's Guardian" and they have all the treatments for sprays, vitamins, flea drops, etc.

Be advised, the flea drops smell as cinnamon and ginger and spice but it dissipates in a couple of days. Very reliable though.

Oh, and good luck with the new baby! Hope everything goes well!

Please do not use the hartz products. Do a google search and look at how many pets have died from it.

I would bath the dog well at the very least and then ask a vet if it is safe to use the frontline now. You may also want to pick up some capstar http://www.capstar.novartis.us/ and use it to get rid of the adult fleas until it is safe to use another topical. Any vet should have capstar, you can also order it online.

Pantene Pro-V daily clarifying shampoo will kill fleas.

Do Not use Hartz, although I think you should be safe to use frontline after giving a bath because I don't think the Hartz is waterproof like the frontline is.

Ask a vet to be sure, but I think you're pretty safe. Hartz is a fairly tame OTC treatment. I would probably give your dog a bath first, then apply the frontline. I would not hesitate with my little dog. I hate fleas.
