Hi everyone. I have a Pomeranian that had a bad flea problem. I bought the k9 advantix for her and follow the directions to a T. Now just a week later she is covered in fleas again. What should I do? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Fleas will keep hatching out in your house for weeks after you start applying Advantix because eggs and larva shed into the carpets and upholstry. Just keep applying the Advantix each month, and eventually all the fleas will be dead. Another option is this: Alternate every two weeks between applying the Advantix and canine Revolution. In other words, in a week, apply Revolution. Then, in two weeks, apply Advantix, then two weeks later, the Revolution again. Revolution will also cover your pom against Heartworm, so you can stop giving her her monthly heartworm medication if you go this route.

Don't use that toxic bug spray. What you need to do is use a flea bomb. Pick a day that you and your dog can be out of the house for a couple of hours. Follow directions and set off the flea bomb (they're much more refined than the old ones of 20 years ago). Of course remove any other living beings in your house such as goldfish, kids, etc. before you bomb. When you and your dog return, be sure and open all the windows and air out your home thoroughly. And do vacumn the couch and carpeting well, as well as wash your bedding as well as your dog's bedding. Remember, she is low to the ground and much smaller than you so is more senstive to toxins.

Remember, you have to treat the whole environment to get rid of the fleas, not just your dog. Between the Advantix and the flea bomb, you should see a big difference.

It's where you live and you let the dogs do their business outside! The dog goes outside in the grass and therefore the fleas jump up on the dog NO MATTER WHAT you do even with Advantix or flea collars. We had a very wet summer down here (record season for TX.) and so goes the flea population. I treated my yards 4 times already, and had my Danes dipped twice. Once at the beginning of summer and yesterday and guess what, fleas already. So I have had dogs for some time now and this is a proven home remedy take it or leave it. Keep Palmolive green on hand, bath and rinse thoroughly. I promise it works. I also use LIME on the borders of the yard to control the ticks and fleas coming from other yards after I treat my yard

Sometimes, especially late in flea season, fleas develop resistance to either Advantage or Advantix or to Frontline. So it's good to switch from Advantix to Frontline next month.

In the meantime, go to your vet and get a pill called Capstar that will kill all the active fleas almost immediately -it's short-acting though. Then vacuum your carpets and upholstery thoroughly and often and throw away the bag. Wash all bedding in hot water (dog and human). You can also bathe your dog in regular shampoo to drown the fleas as needed. This should help get you by until you can use Frontline. In a few months, you can switch back to Advantix - in fact it's good to switch between the two to prevent flea resistance.

I had to bring the dogs in and have them professionally bathed and dipped. In the meantime, I flea bombed the house and had the backyard and front yard defleaed with a fog spray.

The whole process has to be repeated in 3 weeks as the fleas lay eggs and jump all over the dogs and history repeats itself.

During the summer you cannot every 100% get rid of fleas, even i f you don't have animals.

did you treat your house also? and probably your yard? if not she may be picking up new ones from there. it does take a little while for the fleas to die after they get on her, it doesn't work in 2 seconds. if you continue to have this problem after treating your house and yard, then you need to call your vet, because i believe that advantix has a money back guarantee

I never had any luck with the spot treatments, or the flea collars either, for that matter. The only thing that works on my dogs is Adam's flea and tick spray. It kills everything, keeps them from coming back, and it doesn't smell too bad either!

Just remember that if you wash her or get her wet after applying, then you need to re-spray her.

Her environment could also be a factor.

... because your house has fleas. It is just as important to rid the environment of fleas as it is to rid your dog of fleas. Even one or two fleas left behind will cause your dog to have another flare-up.

Get the vacuum out!!

NOTE: "Very powerful bug spray" will not work on Fleas and can absolutely make your dog ill.

Unfortunately the fleas are in your house and you have to get rid of them first! Clean everything! I use Frontline Plus on my dog and she has never had a problem. Switch next month. Good luck...

go to your grocer, and purchase a 3 lb box of 20 mule borax powder, its used as a laundry adtive, but sprinkle all over your house and chairs etc. let stand for a couple days and vac up, you can repeat and let it stay in the carpet, will not stain, and it smells good..
