i just got a 6 week old puppy yesterday and i put her in a cage so she could go to sleep for the night. i turned all our lights off and went to bed. as soon as i shut the door to her cage, she started whining. when i hold her she doesn't whine, but when i try to let her roam, she moans often. is there anything i can do to stop this?

No All pups do this and it's just a matter fo time before she will learn to comfort herself. Put her into the crate at night then say good night and let her be. She will cry but that's normal for a few nights.

I think Paint was pretty harsh with you. He or she doesn't know where you got your dog and has no right to judge you. For all he or she knows, the mother died or you found the pup. (I hope you did not buy it, but even if you did, you need our help right now, not our condemnation.) In any case, don't let his or her comments get to you.

Now...most people are right. The crying will go away with time. The puppy is used to sleeping in a big pile with her brothers and sisters, so try to recreate a soft, comfortable environment with a soft dog bed, pillow or stuffed animal. Other than that, let her cry. It's normal and not cruel at all.

Laura and Sarina both have really good advice, too.

I agree with Goldengal, she is just being lonely but you have to remember that she is VERY young to have been separated from her mother. I would suggest you put her in the crate with a night light on and put a warm bottle of water with her with a sock over it so it's soft and also put a t-shirt or something that you recently wore and did not wash yet. The shirt will carry your scent which will help her get used to you and feel like you are with her since there is the warm bottle. You can also put something in there that ticks like a clock so that she can hear it like she hears a heart. Try different things out and see what works for you. Good luck and don't get frustrated, it just takes time.

she is just young you have to realize that she is probably used to a cuddling up to sisters and brothers and the comfort and warmth of her mother. Being alone is a major change for a new pup. Try getting her a soft bed in her cage, turn on some music or TV, not loud an harsh but soft. She will gets used to the idea eventually, it will take time.

She will do this until she is comfortable with her new surroundings. You can try to get her something fuzzy to sleep next to, or you can let her sleep with you. 6 weeks is a little young to be separated from her mother, but she should be fine in a couple of weeks. I went thru the same thing with my rat terrier. We got him at 4 weeks old because the people who owned his mother wanted to send them to the pound, so we took him. She will be fine.

She's just lonely right now. Just let her cry, and soon she will get over the shock of sleeping in an unfamiliar environment. Make sure you don't start petting her every time she cries, or she will associate crying with getting love. Good luck!

Is her cage in your room with you? She misses her litter mates. Put a doggy stuffed animal in the cage with her, and keep her near you, and she'll stop. (It might take a couple of nights-- you might want to buy earplugs). Also, make her like her cage-- when she goes in on her own, give her some treats. Feed her in her cage too.

6 weeks ot to young to be away fro mher mother
leagally you can NOT remove an puppy from it's mother for at least 8 weeks
#1 report the scum who sold her to you
and then flagellate yourself for killing a shelter dog
after that

go read EVERYTHING you can about dogs bottle babies
puppyies and training

#3 go buy some natures mirical

#4 get her a hot water bottle
fill it with warm water , cover it with a soft cloth or some fur.
