it has been about 3 days now and my 5 month old mini-doxi is not acting the same. If she is not eating, playing with her brother and aunt, or chewing a treat she is flipping out! she sits and braks at us. not only does she sit and bark... she BITES and bites HARD! this behavior is new... she never acted like this as a baby. I am SO confused? I though maybe she is bored? but we play all the time, and she gets MORE then her share of attention, so that is not the case...
ANY IDEAS?

Sounds to me like she is trying to be the boss of the home. You need to start taking her for walks and walk her... not let her walk you... plus go to a training class and dog park to work on behavior and socialization. Her attitude is not okay and she will become more "aggressive" if this behavior is not corrected soon!! Good Luck!

Any sudden change in behavior is a reason to take a trip to the vet to rule out any medical problems. At five months, she is still a baby and there aren't many medical problems that are common to dogs that age, but it is still possible that she could have a medical condition that is causing the behavior change.

Also, find a good dog trainer ASAP! Your vet would probably be able to recommend a good trainer or even a behaviorist who can help you learn to work with your dog so that she becomes a well mannered member of your family once again. Often people put off training small dogs because they're small...it's easy to just pick them up or ignore them when they act aggressively so people don't bother to do preventative training. But small dogs need basic obedience and manners training just as much as large dogs to prevent them from becoming little terrors. A good trainer/behaviorist will be able to show you how to teach her that this behavior is NOT appropriate.

She could be teething. Cutting new teeth is a painful experience for them. Make sure she has lots of fresh water to drink. Also, make sure she has her own toys to chew on. Always correct her when she tries to bite you. Say, "Ow!" and then ignore her for a while. She's trying to get your attention, but that's not the right way to do it. Make sure she's getting plenty of exercise, too.
