My dog Benji is a border collie. when he was a pup the vet thought he might have a mite so we dipped him. the dip helped and then the doctor said that since it worked so quickly it may have just been dry skin, and the dip soothed it. well he has been itching lately (he is now about 3 years old) horribly. we tried bathing him with a special shampoo, and we have been giving him allergy medicine. but nothing is helping.. his skin is flakey and really red and blotchy. he scratches it so often, and cries when he scratches it... i think its starting to hurt him... and i cant figure it out. the vet is blowing it off. *but the vet for the small town i live in is not a very nice man and just ignores the animals problems basically* it really worries me, and I want to help my little baby. also we have another dog (a pit bull) and she doesnt have this problem at all. please help

The only thing i know is that I love dogs and would love to have one. but my husband does'n agree with me to get one as he says that its a lot of responsibility as we wont be able to travel for long with the dog, the dog may just dirty the carpets by shitting/peeing as both of us work longer hours......so do you guys suggest me to get a dog??

I now have to chain the dog up when i leave the house to go to work, becuase he went (eewww!!) on my bed and several other times around the house. But now he cries a lot more and almost chokes himself trying to get loose. By the time i get home he looks hurt and is sad. I have a 8 year old Rottie who has a torn ligament. She needs to lose some weight before the doctor can do surgery. The vet suggesting swimming because it is easy on the joints. I would like to get pool deep enough, so that she can either swim or walk slowly. The hard plastic kiddie pools don't seem to be large enough. We tried taking her to the lake and she didn't like that at all. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Yes i know its bad but my sister was eating some cookie crisp when she dropped a piece and my dog ate it. it was about the size of 3 nickles stacked on top of each other and the dog is about 2 years old it is a dachsund who im guessing weighs 10-15 pounds.

Should I have my dog taken to the vet or is it too small of an amount to cause harm?

One of my pride and joys is my 4 year old Bishon Frise', Cloud. She has a chip in her, just in case she ever gets lost. We have moved, addresses and phone numbers have changed. How do I get the information on the chip updated to reflect the current of each? She has a collar and tags, but I would like the chip to be right as well. Her collar has broken while outside on the leash before, so I know not to trust the durability of any.

I would be heartbroken if I lost her. Please help with any resources..

I have a 6 month old Cocker Spaniel puppy and he is a very sweet dog, who loves to eat and who is very attached to me. Recently I discovered that he has a problem. I left him for one day and one night with some friends, who he knows and sees every day and who also own his sister, who he loves to play with. During that time he would't eat or drink or do anything other than just lay around. He also wont go potty with anybody else but me. I plan on traveling this year and my puppy will have to stay with somebody else during that time. What can I do to change his behavior and make him eat and drink without having to have me around? Please help!!!

My Female Neapolitan Mastiff Lab Mix is 6 months old and weighs 63 lbs. Does anyone have any idea if she is going to stay at about this same weight and size? or will she be 120 + lbs like the vet said? How much more growing does she have to do?

My dog usually goes everywhere with us, especially since I've been working from my home full time. But lately he anticipates it TOO much. He gets in the van and whines and shakes with anticipation. His manners go downhill and he looses 'good boy manners'. last time, He whined almost constantly making noise until I have a headache. I was SO grumpy with him and he knew he was in trouble, but just couldn't control himself.. he was SO excited. After we got home he avioded me all day. Since then he hasnt' gone ANYWHERE with us. Does he know why?

First, this dog is not mine but I take her on at least one walk a day. I don't feed her or anything else. The problem is even after giving attention, she'll yipe for more attention, so much that I can't even watch a movie with the family because she is so disruptive. She's a Black Lab and though she's got a sweet disposition , I find this almost constant attention seeking hard to take at times. Also, the other frustrating part is that others in the family think its just one big joke. Any suggestions?

Does playing Tug-a-War with a Pit make him aggressive. We have a 8 month old Pit and my husband likes to play tugawar with him and I am afraid it may make him aggressive, myself and the kids play fetch. Are there any games that we should not play with Pits to stay away from aggression?

Frontline is a topical application that is very oily and makes his coat oily. I was debating between k9 advantix and frontline as to which was better--but both are topical.

Now of course after you bath him, his coat is fine so its not oily for the whole month--just a few days.

Is there an ORAL medication that kills ticks and fleas like Frontline that **you have tried** and been happy with? Or do you think Frontline Plus is the best available and not worth it to change? My vet doesn't care--they are all amount of preference and all regarding if they are working. It works fine--but I'd prefer something oral. Any suggestions?

(I asked this ques before and for some odd reason everyone though I was asking something about bathing him often. No--as the topic line suggests--my question is about topical flea and tick medication)

lol that may be an over statement, anyways i own one of those bully style pitbulls, you know the short and stocky ones, hes fawn and white and is 10 months old.....i barely started walking him ALOT within this last month, but the problem i really have is that i cant take him no where because each dog he sees he wants to eat it alive, i mean he will bark, cry, pull me towards the dog (wich he fails at) like he just wants to start rumbling with the other dog.....this is why i hate taking him for walks cause he dont know how to act around other dogs

ps i am 100% AGAINST dog fighting so I WOULD NEVER TRAIN MY DOG TO ATTACK

Hi
I live in a small town in vermont, and I have no parks or dogparks near me, so I was wondering if anyone knew fun stuff I can do with my 2 beagle/shepard mixes?
Thanks!

After doing some research I found out the dog was purebed and the owner bred and trained the dogs. According to the owner the dog showed no signs of agression before putting the kid in the hospital, and had been to obediance schoo.

So there you have it, a well trained pitbull randomly attacking a child. I considering starting a petition to ban the dogs in my town, is that a good idea?

Just purcahsed a Chihuahua puppy he will be ready to be shipped by plane to me soon. The breeder sent a list of his food requirements and eating schedule. In the list was Prednisone. She is currently giving this to the pup and said she will continue untill she ships so she does not stress out. She also said I can continue with this for a while longer. I am concerened, any breeders do this? Is this normal? Should I talk to my vet about this before I get the puppy?
