Wolves are a highly intelligent WILD animal. No, they are not tameable. Nor should people try to do so.
Never to be confused with huskies, malamutes, or german shepherds, descendants of wolves, yes, look somewhat like wolves, yes but they are domestic dogs NOT wolves.
Contrary to popular opinion, wolves are NOT aggressive; they much prefer to slink away. However if you are hiking (say in Yellowstone) and come across one, you should never look it directly in the eye (considered a challenge) but should shift your eyes to the side and slowly back away. Never run as they do have a strong prey drive (not to be confused with aggression.)
Since they are pack animals there is eventually a certain amount of jockeying for pack leader (alpha) position which is another reason they should not be kept as pets; as they grow older they will try for the alpha position, not a matter of if they will, but a matter of when.

Some animals were created wild and some domestic. So some are tameable and some are not. wolves are very much a wild breed. Some persons learn to inter act with them but not without spending a life time at it and not without getting hurt sometimes...
Some times a wolf is bred with a domestic dog and hybreds are results. I owned one once. A smarter and better companion I will never own! But it requires being partners for l00 % of the time, ALL the TIME!
Some breeds are wolf looking due to human preference in the breeding program. Some of the larger Huskies were bred more to this look because of the local breeders admiration of the wolve stamina and agility and survival skills. In some parts of the country the sled dogs meant life or death for their oweners and the people around them.
Today it is broadly accepted that the smaller sturdy built husky breeds are better at their job, but this is a matter of professional opinion.
Every breed of pure bred dog was structured by a human into what it is for a particular perpose or reason.

Look up Candy Kitchen Wolf rescue. It's in NM.

Has quite a history & they can send you information. I have worked with them before & they are a good sourse of information. Most of their staff are experienced in dealing with the natural temperament.

They do adopt out some of the Hybrids but you have to prove to them you can handle any situation that might arise. And you know the differences between the hybrid & a regular dog. There is a lot that you have to know to be able to handle one properly.

yes huskies and malamutes look like wolves. They are wonderful dogs, but a wolf at all cost never should be a pet. Some people try to breed dogs to wolves, and in my opinion, that is a animal that should not be trusted.

huskies are huskies - of the northern breed. They are the closest throw back we have to wolves.

Wolves are extremely destructive in captivity in a home & most places have laws about keeping them & strict regs as to how they must be kept.

Even mixes are controlled in many places.

One would imagine so as all the strains of dog must have come from somewhere. You don't see many wild sheepdogs around on the moors.

they would seem to be very difficult to tame, my aunt has a hybrid and it seems to be impossible for her to even get it to sit anytime, resulting in them having to toss food to it, or else it will knock them over. Its nice though, it recognizes that they bring it food and it doesnt bite, just tries to play too tough

No wild animal is really tame-able, they can be domesticated over time but they will still have their instincts and you can't get rid of that.
