My dog will be flying in the cargo department in his kennel soon. I know dog's aren't supposed to wear regular collars when in their kennel but is it ok to leave his harness on him?

My bf and I are going to be moving into a new apt. He has a sweet yellow lab who sheds especiall in the summer.. What are some ways that I can limit the amount of fur on the furniture and clothes. Does the anti shedding shampoo work?

We will have wooden floors so we can sweep the fur off of the floors.

I have to work and therefore have to leave my 1 year old dachsund at home. I know that it must be boring for him and I don't want him to start destroying things because he's bored. Do you have any suggestions for good ways to keep him entertained on his own? He has a Kong toy which he loves but he can only play with that so long...any ideas? Please no lectures on the fact that I have to leave him home alone, it's a temporary situation.

and keeps it in that cage while its indoors. We live in Canada so the dog is indoors more than outdoors-particularly in the cold seasons. I think its cruelty as the dog only has space to spin around and it doesn't seem natural to keep a dog in a cage for hours on end. Then again I'm kind of against keeping anything captive as I made a flight room for my budgies (birds) so they wouldn't have to constantly be in a cage but they have a huge cage with lots of room to fly anyway but this dog cannot take two steps unless he walks in a tight circle. I think it looks like a cage from a puppy mill-only smaller. :-( what is your opinion on this? My friend is annoyed when I bring up the subject.

I have a 7-year-old golden and I just adore this breed! I love dogs in general, but I've found goldens to be the sweetest, kindest, most gentle dogs. They seem to be great with kids too. I love talking to other golden fans! :)

I have a border collie/pit bull mix puppy. He is extremly friendly dog. He loves people. He wants to walk up to everyone he sees .

I got him neutered 3 weeks ago. I was told that this may help calm him down but it seems like it got worse. He can't sit still, always jumping on people, trying to run after people. I mean he was pretty hyper before but now its crazy how big of change.

Do you think the neutering do this to him or is this what I will have to deal with for the next couple of years??

I wanted to start puppy training classes months ago but I've got a roomate who I want to be at the training sessions and we had schedule conflicts. We are going to start the classes this month though. I don't know if hes going to be able to sit still enough to allow either of us to learn.

I give him about 2 hours of excercise a day walking and chasing each other outside every day. He probably gives himself an additional 2 hours running around the house.

RE: the recall of IAMS

The IAMS was my (now) 6 month old puppy's food. When he was 3 months old he ate this food. Should I get him checked out? Thanks!

he prefers staying hungry if i dont give him eggs.He also drinks milk.Is that okay? for him? he's almost 1 year.
hes also got a lot of lumps in his coat..matting. how do you get rid of those without actually cutting them? coz that would make him look ugly.
and he has a lot of parasites too,he goes in the grass ocassionally...how do you get rid of these??

hi everyone. i just adopted my first dog. it is a shih tzu. I've had her for one week and just recently took her to have her coat trimmed. as many of you pet owners know, this can be expensive. i was wondering if i could give her trims like once every 2 weeks. i heard somewhere that it was bad to cut a dog's hair by yourself. is this true?? i'm new to all of this so any suggestions would help. also, how often should i give the dog a bath? they told me about once every other week, but with my dog's long coat, this sounds like too little to me...

I love Beagles - I think they are adorable. They're like a small dog with a big dog personality! I've been thinking about getting one but their reputation as being "noisey" kind of scares me. I had a Sheltie when I was a kid that barked all the time and our next door neighbor poisoned her! So... do all Beagles howl and bark?

Is it a bad idea to get a puppy if I'll be at work for 8 hours? It would be a small breed and indoors only. Also, is it necessary to buy two to keep them sane? An adoption place I went to wouldn't let me adopt without taking two since he'd be left alone longer than 4 hours and would go nuts from being lonely.

First, how much food does a full grown female eat in, say, a month? How long would a 35lb bag last?

Second, how much do they cost to buy? I am fully aware that this is the least of the costs, but it is still fairly important in knowing how much I need to save before I go off and get one *it's still some time to go, but still* I mean, don't want to save up $2000 thinking that she'll be $500 and Ill be set with the $1500 for the first only to find out that all of it will go into the purchase price. Specifically how much are they in Florida, because i know prices differ around the country.

Is there anything truly special I need to look for in a breeder, beyond the basics *champion parent(s) with their hips tested and proven good*? I intend to go through the AKC classifieds and I know that not everyone advertising is really all that great to their dogs.

Anything else I should know?

thanks much.

Planning to bring our dog from spain to UK for summer. Somebody told us there is a kennelling system on the deck where dogs are placed, but website says they have to stay in the car. As the journey is 19 hours I'm not keen on the latter. What are your experiences?
