I'm talking purebred - if I decide I want one from the Humane Society, I'm on my own, yeh?

I want a small dog (toy, below 15 lbs) that isn't too hyper or yappy. More of a curl-up-in-your-lap kind of dog, who'll go on a walk or play, but doesn't go nutso if it's not exercised every day, and can sit still. Preferably one that doesn't shed too too much, and requires grooming 3 times weekly or less.

I'll be living in an apartment, with a job at a restaurant or store, so I won't be around all the time, but I won't be away much other than that (if I do have to go somewhere, I'm planning on taking the dog!).

I've looked at the Papillon and Japanese Chin, but the different sites say different things about temperament. It sounds like the Pap might have too much energy for me (even though I prefer the way it looks to the way the Chin looks).

Anyone have any ideas or comments?

my min pin Pager is almost 8 months old. She is purebred, and the vet said she is a great example of the breed standard. She is playful, loving, and loves people and other animals. We have really socialized her since the day we got her. The problem is some of her behavior. She is real bad about getting into things like the garbage and tearing in up (we put the garbage up now so she can't reach it). But she will chew and destroy anything she can get hold of. we tell her no, give her toys instead, smack her bum or nose, we've used a water spray bottle, nothing works. As soon as you turn your back or go to sleep or something she's at it! I don't know if she is bored or what. She has plenty of room and toys to play with, and chewy toys like pig ears. We love her but cant keep having her destroy the house. We have tried crating her and that doesnt work because she just howls and screams and wont stop. what can we do to help this behavior? or do we just have to wait til she is older? Help!!!

Hey there. I know this question has been asked a million times already, but i'd like to get an answer that's specifically for my situation.
To start off, i'm sixteen and i'm in college - I started early thanks to a program in my county. I spend two or three days a week at home, and on the days i'm not here, i'm only gone for six or seven hours. Even if i'm not home, there's usually someone here to watch our animals.
I have a dog (male) and two cats (both female). My dog and one of my cats are friendly, but the other cat is a brat and very possessive of me. However, she's not violent.
I live out in the country, but our yard is pretty small. In about two years i'll be moving out, into an apartment. I'll be taking my bratty cat with me - the other two animals are considered 'family pets' and so I won't be bringing them with me.
I am a pretty lazy person and I don't think I could handle a dominant dog. I'm also pretty picky about how animals look.

Anyone have any ideas?

I've read other threads here that address somewhat the same situation, and for all those who posted that a neutered male will no longer be "interesed" in breeding, forget it! He IS and he CAN.

Does anyone know if he can still get her pregnant?

All the online guides on how to teach a dog to heel always instruct you to.. step forward with the left leg... etc etc. Is there a reason they use left side? Is this just a coincidence, or do dogs like the left side better? Or does this have something to do with dog pack dynamics?

Hi!

I was reading a dog book and the man mentioned how many people have a "life dog". A dog that makes you rethink your life and your goals (changes perspective). I was wondering if people feel like they have had one dog that greatly influenced their life...like made you rethink how you were living (change careers, move somewhere you always wanted, etc.). Many of us have had numerous dogs....so do you have one like this that stands out above all your other dogs? How did it impact you?

We have a beautiful sheltie named Chelsea. She turned 15 in February. Although she has cataracts and her hearing is not that great anymore she still eats (begs for food), goes to the bathroom normally and loves us. She does sleep alot more, but heck at her age who wouldn't. She battled cancer almost 5 years ago and has been cancer free since. We just wondered what the oldest age sheltie of record might be. We just figured we love her and she loves us soooo much that she doesn't want to leave us.

We are thinking of adopting a dog for our family (Jason 35, Renee 33, Seth 6 and Zach 4). There are 10 Australian Cattle Dog / Blue Heeler puppies at an animal shelter nearby by. I really like this breed, but we both work and we don't have a large back yard. I'm worried the dog won't get enough attention / exercise. Should we go ahead and take a chance or should we consider another breed???

My dog is a 7 year old Kooikerhond, a rare breed from the Netherlands. He is not a large dog, roughly the size of a cocker spaniel. Recently he began to yelp when he uses his hind legs. I checked if he stepped on something sharp, and that is not the case. I have tried moving his back legs with my hands and there is no pain.. When he sits, he sits in a very awkward way to avoid pain. My wife and I both haven't seen him do anything that can cause injury. Please help we feel bad for the little fella.
