My dog is a 7 year old Kooikerhond, a rare breed from the Netherlands. He is not a large dog, roughly the size of a cocker spaniel. Recently he began to yelp when he uses his hind legs. I checked if he stepped on something sharp, and that is not the case. I have tried moving his back legs with my hands and there is no pain.. When he sits, he sits in a very awkward way to avoid pain. My wife and I both haven't seen him do anything that can cause injury. Please help we feel bad for the little fella.

I've seen a dog do that before. A slipped, bulging or pinched disc in his lower spine could explain why he doesn't react when you touch his legs because its not actually his legs that the pain is coming from.
Looks like you may have to do a trip to the vet. Good luck.

Vet immediately.
You cant fix what you cant see and you are not qualified anyway to diagnose or treat an internal problem.

The dog may have joint problems. arthritis or damage to a ligament/ tendon etc or even a fracture.

Always treat animals like children and take them for a check up if there is something of concern but dont know what the problem is.

Have your vet check to see if his anal glads are infected. This can cause pain to your dog. If they are not the problem then your vet will have to do a complete check to see exactly where the discomfort is coming from.

There is a possiblity that he might have stepped on a sticker that could be on the bottom of his paw or inside of his nail bed. I strongly suggest that you call your vet and discuss the problem w/him or her. Wish you all the luck....

Better see the vet. Could be an injury, or he could be developing arthritis.
