Chows are sometimes called lion dogs, Akitas are sometimes called bear dogs...it's probably a fuzzy dog with strong guarding instincts.

I have an Akita/Chow mix and have heard groomers refer to him as a lionbear. They are beautiful dogs! He is very mild-tempered, playful, and great with the kids. My only complaint is that he sheds like crazy! They have a thick undercoat and it's nearly impossible to brush it all out.
