Carrots were actually recommended by my vet as a healthy snack as well as green beans. He loves both but only if they are cooked! I put together a quick list of some fruit and vegetable items which are known to be harmful to dogs and other animals, please see below.
I was not aware of tomatoes being harmful and my daughter just did a 5th grade report on this a few months ago. But see below, evidently they _can_ be harmful...
You'll want to stay away from:
Apples, apricots, cherries, peaches, pears, plums: The seeds contain cyanogenic glycosides which can result in cyanide poisoning.
Avocados: Avocado contains a toxic element called persin which can damage heart, lung and other tissue in many animals. Avocadoes are high in fat content and can trigger an upset stomach, vomiting or even pancreatitis.
Broccoli: The toxic ingredient in broccoli is isothiocynate. While it may cause stomach upset it probably won't be very harmful unless the amount fed exceeds 10% of the dogs total daily diet.
Corn cobs: Many dogs have suffered and, in some cases, died after eating corn-on-the-cob, because the corn cob caused a partial or complete intestinal obstruction. Never allow your dog access to corn cobs.
Grapes and raisins: Although the minimum lethal dosage is not known, grapes and raisins can be toxic to dogs when ingested in large quantities.
Macadamia Nuts: The toxic compound is unknown but eating as few as six nuts without the shell has been known to cause elevated body temperature, accelerated heartbeat, tremors in the skeletal muscles, and weakness or paralysis of the hindquarters.
Nuts: Nuts in general are not good for dogs as their high phosphorus content may lead to bladder stones.
Onions: Onions cause hemolytic anemia, which means that the red blood cells break down leaving the dog short of oxygen.
Potatoes: Solanum alkaloids can be found in green sprouts and green potato skins. This is pretty well know as people shouldn't eat them either.
Tomatoes: These contain atropine which can cause dialated pupils, tremors and irregular heartbeat. The highest concentration of atropine is found in the leaves and stems of tomato plants, next is the unripe (green) tomatoes and then the ripe tomato.

Both my dogs love fruits and veggies!! What do we fee them? Frozen Green Beans, Strawberries, apple slices, cucumbers, grapes, and bananas (their favorite). We use them as opposed to conventional treats and they love every minute of it!! On a side note, if they ever get the runs, a couple cups of white rice hardens everything up within about half a day. We love feeding our doggies natrual stuff!!

Carrots are fine to give to your dog but some fruits & veggies can be toxic to your dog. Grapes are one type of fruit thats toxic to your dog. Talk to your vet to see what would be safe to give you dog. You can also go to the link I have posted at the bottom.

That sounds so cute! My dogs get veggies in their food (ground up) and FLop will sometimes take a carrot, but Trigger just goes "Uh, don't want this, thanks!" when I try to give her apple slices and carrots.

Not often. If I do, it's only carrots. Although, I have heard string beans are good for dogs.
