My dog had an ear infection before and ever since that I clean her ears once a week. The stuff that I use is Virbac Epi Otic ear cleaner that I bought from the vet. But even though I use that her ears still start to odor after a few days before the next routine cleaning. I read that ear mites can be hard to tell because they're really small and that they leave "crusty " stuff in the ear. I've always thought that when I clean my dogs ear it was dirt and earwax coming out. Can it be possible that she has ear mites? How can I tell the difference between just plain dirty ears and ear mites.

Also she likes to play outdoors in the yard (sunbath, roll around, play her toys, etc) but the grass has been treated with insect killer during this last summer.

My 4 year old lab mix has severe hip dysplasia. During the winter, I give him his Rimadyl twice a day, during the summer, just in the evenings. It was $89.00 for 60 - 75mg tablets. I picked up his prescription from the vet yesterday, they told me it went up to $95.00. Basically costing me $95.00 for a month's supply (at least during the winter months). Also, I'm concerned about the effects on his liver. Yes, he gets his blood tested twice a year to screen for any liver problems. Can anyone suggest good cost effective AND healthier alternatives?

While walking to my car tonight a dog Labrador sized came running out of no where barking and jumping at me.I had to go into someones front garden and shut the gate to get away from it.
Not to sure whether it nipped me in the ar*e or got me with a claw.
Should dog owners be fined if they let there animals run around unsuperzised

I used to buy the puppy training pads and they were getting costly so I switched to newspaper. The newspaper does not absorb and the pee ends up staying in a puddle then rolling onto the carpet. I am not sure what I can do to resolve this problem.

medium to large, good with kids, low to medium energy, ok with a weekly romp in the country and have a medium back yard to play in. I stay at home and will continue to with my daughter (19 m/o)for the next two years and then work part time. We are looking for a good family dog we will most likely go to our local shelter so I am just trying to get some ideas of breed traits. I would like it to be a decent watch dog as we are home alone a lot. I know each dog varies, but would like some opionions on what would be a good fit. Thanks

My dog has a real bad rash on her lower stomach. It is real red, ans she is constantly itching it. She is also itching around her chest. About a week ago I found a flea on me. Could she have fleas. I would go up to the vet, but I am real low on money, and a vet visit is already 25, 30 dollars.

My 8 month old puppy has been sick since monday. He vomited while I was at work and a couple times after I came home he had no interest in eating at all. So I took him into the emergancy vet. They gave him shots of fuild to keep him hydrated and pepcid ac. They said if he wasen't eating but morning to get him into the vet. Well he was eating in the morning but still vomiting. I tryed giving him a bland diet scrambled eggs (he didnt like) and then later in the day I gave him about a cup of ground beef cooked over the stove. I took him back to the vet Wednesday morning x-rays where done nothing showed up. The vet said he could have been feed too much too soon and the ground beef was probably too greasy. He has been given two medications to keep his food down and prevent dirrhea. Also I was told to give him Pepcid AC once a day. I gave him one dose last nite. He was doing great untell midnite when he vomited again. I have only been feeding him I/D bland food. Should I take him back in

I have a friend who has 2 Kelpies and when he puts their flea medicine on them, the drops, the one dog gets really upset with him and ignores him for about a day, laying around sulking. Is this because the dog feels less dominant?

I have a 9 month old Jack, and have bought him every toy known to man, from Kongs to ropes to tennis balls. They keep his attention for a short while, then he looses interest and starts chewing at things behind my back. I give him a LOT of attention, but he sneaks off and does things behind my back, like while I am in the shower. I don't want to have to crate him when I am doing something in the house. Even with treats in some of the toys, they still become ignored.

Thank yo for everyone who answered my earlier question about spaying my dog. I found a vet who will do it for about half price but they can't do it for a month. They said that they can do it even if she is already pregnant. But if she is already bred and I have to wait a month, isnt that a little risky? Has anyone had experience with this and how did it turn out?

my hubby and i have been raising pits for 10 yrs now.we have 4 kids ages 3-9.our dogs have always been well behaved respectable pets, that listen, obey, play, and love. i think it is so sad that people buy these dogs for whatever reasons, and mistreat them, train them to be fighters, and so on. a pit wants to make it owner happy, regardless of the consequence. or if its mistreated, they will act upon that, as ANY dog would. and with thepit being a very powerful dog they do more damage, which in the end, gives them bad attention. i would just like people to know that they are great family dogs, so many people are too scared of that idea. they really are a great breed. i just wish everyone could treat them correctly(owners and outsiders) tell your views

I have to go to school during the day, so I leave my 2 year old pug loose in the house and put down pee pads for her to use. When I come home, the pad usually has pee on it, but she leaves turds where ever she wants. I even leave down another pad in a different place, in case she doesnt want to pee and poo in the same place. What should I do to show her I want her to poop on the pads too?
