Thank yo for everyone who answered my earlier question about spaying my dog. I found a vet who will do it for about half price but they can't do it for a month. They said that they can do it even if she is already pregnant. But if she is already bred and I have to wait a month, isnt that a little risky? Has anyone had experience with this and how did it turn out?

Thank you Miriam, you answered my earlier question too. She is in heat now and I am afraid she is bred or will be by the time I can get her spayed. But I am still going to go through with getting her spayed and now I will have a month to come up with the finances. The other vet told me that I would have to have her spayed within a week.

No, he can terminate the pregnancy and spayher at the same time. I rescued a cat that was pregnant and had the same thing done. There was no problem.

I had my 2 rescue dogs spayed with a certificate I picked up at the local animal shelter and I only had to pay about half the price at the vet. The discount is not a set price and each vet is different and usually loses money on this service but they know it is worth it because too many animals being bred and they hope you will continue to use their services in the future.
I know there are so many animals without homes and euthanized daily because of lack of homes but please wait to spay her if she is pregnant. If she is pregnant I don't think the puppies should be euthanized (if the mother is far enough long) and you are being responsible by wanting to spaying your pet. A lot of cities have shelters that either foster dogs out or don't euthanize. Please keep this in mind if you can not find a home for all the puppies.
Sorry if I haven't answered your question directly because it was about the risks of waiting but I felt the need to voice my opinion.

Try talking to the vet again. Ask the vet your questions, call other vets or your humane society and ask. Get some really informed opinions on this one. I am glad you are getting your dog spayed, its the responsible thing to do.

Hopefully the person who hangs out here that has been a vet tech will pipe up with some good information. I think that it is riskier to spay while pregnant and the further along the more risky. It might be better to let her have the pups, but you need to start looking for good homes now.

Again I suggest getting some good, well informed advice about this. Good luck.

How long ago was she bred?

Certainly there is more risk the further along she is, however if I recall correctly it is still riskier to actually give birth. Even with people, pregnancy and delivery are risky endeavors.

As far as experience goes, I recall being at the vet's while a golden retriever was being spayed, she was almost to term, so far along that the pups had to be individually euthanized. I was VERY tempted to take the pups and raise them, but I didn't. I wish sometimes that I had.

Oh, the bi tch was fine after the surgery.

Yes dogs can be spayed while pregnant.
They remove the dogs uterus and ovaries when they do a spay.
It removes any pups that are in the uterus at the time of the spay.
It is a little riskier but done commonly all the time.
Most verts would prefer to spay while not in heat or pregnant but the risk is still far less than actually having the pups.

If she isn't pregnant already, you can prevent it by doing a couple of things.

1). you can get her Heat Britches that contain a pad.

2). you can watch her very closely and do not allow her outside unattended.

3). to prevent males hanging around, take her else where to do her Jobs.

To get her spayed won't be any different then doing a C-Section and Spay. That was done with my little Girl and she did just fine. In Fact she is a Happy little girl.

Please, please do whatever you have to to make sure that she isn't accidently bred, keep her inside if she's and outside dog and put the special panties and pads on her to keep the bloody mess to a minimum; she may not like them at first she will get used to them.

Do not spay her if she is too little. Spaying also stops the female hormones. The could confuse the dog because she wouldn't understand which sex she is in. After that the muslin hormones would get bigger and she could get more aggressive and she could change her peeing style to males. That's bit risky
