My dog loves to roll in dead animals and anything that smells bad. Why do dog's do that? What might I be able to do to get my dog to stop.

Dead, rotting, and smelly things are the perfume and caviar of the canine world. The only way to keep your dog from doing this is to leash him when you're outside.

My dog is a champion at this. The one thing I do, if I have her off leash, is keep a close eye out for her getting REALLY interested in one spot she's sniffing. That is almost always a prelude to some nasty stuff rolling. That way I can stop her before she gets going. I have found no way to stop it entirely, and frankly don't thing that there is one.

dogs do that so that other dogs cant smell them, mostly is dogs that are breed to hunt that roll in stuff as the animal that they are hunting will not smell them. theirs really no way of stopping them from doing it other then just watching when they are outside and not letting them near dead animals or other dogs poo. just make sure u clean up ur yard and watch ur dog carefully when outside cuz i know its hell u get them clean when they smell that bad lol

It's easier for a wolf to sneak up on a deer if it smells like a dead deer or like poop than if it smells like a wolf. Since all dogs are descended from wolves, this is instinctual, but it does seem that the hunting breeds tend to like it more. You won't be able to break this habit most likely, but this is why we have leashes.

Dogs do that because they like it. The only way to prevent it is to keep your dog leashed and watch him carefully.

My chihuahua does this. He does it on wet stinky towels and even clean towels. No clue why, he just does. I just yell STOP and he does. I dont think theres anything else you can do really.

My suggestion would be to quit leaving dead animals laying around. I know, I know, it will be hard to overcome, but it can be done.
