I have a 9 month old Jack, and have bought him every toy known to man, from Kongs to ropes to tennis balls. They keep his attention for a short while, then he looses interest and starts chewing at things behind my back. I give him a LOT of attention, but he sneaks off and does things behind my back, like while I am in the shower. I don't want to have to crate him when I am doing something in the house. Even with treats in some of the toys, they still become ignored.

Grit your teeth and crate that dog. They are stubborn creatures and believe you me he will out last you. Toys that move in random patterns may keep his attention better. JRTs have doggy ADD

There is a Boogie Ball, that keeps terriers entertained, as it has a motion of its own, and keeps them chasing it around the house. I know PetSmart carries it.. Also, I have better luck with kitten kibble in the Kong type toys. It is smellier, and different scent than their own treats.. use a good quility kitten libble, such as Felidae
Or, save the Kong or Boogie Ball for special occasions, and pick it up as soon as you are back in the room..So he doesn't get bored with it..

kongs are great, tough and bouncy, and you can stuff them with goodies and treats, so he is busy licking them out! This will keep him occupied. Nylabone or Gumabones will clean teeth and are great chew toys, safe too. He'll be OK crated, cry and whine but safe and he'll be OK - he'll get used to it. You have to shower sometime!
