I've just realized my dog may have worms. I made an appointment for her at the Vet for tomorrow. I also heard that it can be passed to humans... HOW? Should I take any precautions like put her in the garage and keep me and the family separate from her for now?

They can be passed through saliva and feces. Just make sure after you touch the dog you wash your hands before touching your nose, mouth or eyes.

It depends on the type of worms, but the most common types are acquired by injesting (eating) a flea that carries the parasite. Separating the dog from the family is pointless. If you're gonna get them, you probably already have... but chances are, you're fine.

Honestly, you're more likely to get worms from eating red meat than you are to get them from your cat or dog. Watch animal planet for a day or two and you'll find out more than you EVER wanted to know on worms infecting humans! YUK.

quite easily - although I don't want to panic you!
If a dog licks his bott, or sniffs his dodo, then kisses your hand or face, then eggs can be passed to you and if you don't wash your hands you eat the eggs! also you can get it by handeling his food bowl - wash it separately from your and use his own towel, never share
