I asked this question too and all I got was "google them". Well duh you can google any dog breed and get all the basic infor in the world! Well my patterdale (he is my first one) has the best personality! He is really getting the hang of house training (11 weeks old) and he is the rare black and tan color! He knows how to sit as well, that took him about 15 minutes to learn. I crate train him and he does great with that. I even take him to work with me, so hes learning his manners early. He is very engergetic but LOVES to just cuddle with me. He is very much attatched to me, however, because he goes absolutely everywhere with me! I hardly have to discipline him, I say NO once and he gets it, he knows to leave whatever it was alone. I can even eat a cookie with him in my lap and dot trying to get my food.

Their hardcore little terriers, so you either need work them or keep them busy with other activities, but if you've done your research you know that. I would suggest you just make sure your a terrier person, because if you're not a Patterdale will surely drive you crazy. The two I met had some of the most intense prey drive I'd ever seen. Outside that's all they did was chase squirrels, chipmunks, etc. I don't know if this was obseessive on their part or this was indicitave of the breed...

My Friend has a 7 month patterdale and he is lovely. They were told that they can be difficult to train and need a firm hand but so far things are going great. He gets on well with other dogs and is very playful and full of character, he's great.

The patterdale terrier which is always black in colour was originaly bred for the same purpose as its neighbourhood cousin the Lakeland terrier(black&tan) and the purpose was work. Iv had several over the years and have worked them to fox. Personnaly i found them to be over hard,by that i mean they tended to kill the fox underground before it got chance to bolt, this usually meant a lengthy digging job to get them back.I actualy owned one that would stay with the fox for days and eat it should he manage to kill it in the first place,he would NEVER leave a fox underground it either bolted or it was eaten,he was a bit of a pain in the **** actualy as we always had to dig him out ,we could never use him in rockpiles or quarries etc.I know a lot of terrier men who still use pattys and swear by them, but then i know as many that wouldnt have one given its just down to personnal preference, they are a very hard working terrier usualy but safe to play ball with the grandkids in the back garden,iv never known a bad one towards people.Still they said the Titanic couldnt sink didn,t they? hope iv been some use.
